It seems i was slightly incorrect. I have twelve and a half thousand crowns at my disposal - more come harvest (payday tomorrow). As the kings safety is at risk, i will require as many men as possible for that. At cost price. I am willing to to compensate you in future years, for this.
Jean blanched, that was a large amount of cash, but he understood now where the Earl was headed.

"You are right, this is exceptional circumstances. With 12,000 crowns I would be able to 1200 men, that would be nearly 1,500 men to join your force. I am willing to give you the King's rate, as I see this as an action on behalf of the King, so the compensation would work out to 6,000 crowns. If you decide to go with this action I could have the whole force mobalised almost immediately to join yours. Are you willing to make such a great expense?"

OOC: Whats the policy in fighting in two theaters at once. If I am involved in the battle outside Lincoln, which I think will result in a retreat anyway. Can I join the expedition to save the King?

It is a deal. Get the word out. We march at dawn.

ooc; your stuck in the north i'm afraid. Dunno the rules anymore. but your character can only be in one battle at a time. Cause of risks of death, etc etc. otherwise we don't really care where the guy is - in this case the need for realism trumps rp.

OOC: NP, I will have my Aux command the men, he was at the battle anyway.

The Word was indeed out and Jean departed with all haste to form the army.

A letter arrives from Jean de Rouen

To his Grace, the Duke Mortimer of Somerset,

News has reached my ears of a most disquieting event. It has come to my attention that forces purchased from my Company by your Grace were disbanded without your consent. I write to you personally to apologies for this. It is not my policy, nor that of the Company to mistreat our investors and as I express my deepest regret at what has transpired. First I will have you know that as soon as I return to London, I shall have my accountant replaced, hopefully a man with more scrupulous morals. If it where within my power, I would have the forces disbanded re-formed, but I fear that it is too late for that. I can instead offer my personal services. I know that you still require forces to pacify the lands in the West Country. When you are ready to begin that expedition, I shall join you with 500 men of my own personal forces, free of charge.

It is a paltry offer in comparison to the wrong done to you, but I hope that our relationship is not soured by this event.

    Your Servant,

    Jean de Rouen

Giles sat while the letter was read to him, then looked off into space. He didn't know if it was genuine or not, but knew that he was to important a man to offend. He didn't really care either way, the man had been punished for his actions, and Giles was satisfied. The service they provide to useful to hold a grudge.

Martel is shown in. Giles is sitting in his tent, a young lad of twelve or so sitting before him. Giles was watching the lad inspect a sword. Giles had several squires, and usually ignored them. But on occasion one would show promise and receive the Dukes attention - though they usually hated him for it, Giles wasn't always the kindest master.

Giles looks up from his seat - the only one in the tent - and gestures for the man to settle himself on the floor if he wishes, or stand if not. Then waits for why the man is here.

Warrick chose to stand, even in the presence of his superior he felt it beneath him to sit on the floor.

OOC: Hmm, my son is 27. I think early marriages were normal, but who knows might ask one of the history nuts.

Ah, the one who is bound to peace. You were captured with the king were you not?

    Is your son like you?

Giles words were neutral, it was anyones guess as to what his thoughts were.

I was, my son arranged for my release, I scolded him for giving me preference over the King, but what can I say he is loyal to his family.

I find it suitable yes, the first born of the head of the norman Barons, for the second daughter of a Duke.

Forgive my bluntness. But your sons behaviour over yours and the kings capture hardly speaks well of him. Send him to me for six months or so, and i will see his character. If i judge him a norman man i shall agree.

That is unsuitable, it seems I have wasted both my time and yours your Grace. I thank you again for receiving me. Warrick bowed as he spoke and went to leave, this was a business transaction in his mind, he didnt care if they couple were combatable or suitable, they were noble children there place was to help secure relations.
