Sveinur Whitmore mounted up when encouraged to do so by the Duke, and rode up beside him, joining in the charge. It was a nice change, his legs ejoyed not bearing him and all his equipment for a short while. But after the charge he would dismount again, he was not experienced enough in mounted combat to fight the whole battle on horseback.

As the men assembled beside him, the Duke gave the order and all of them charged on the saxons. The saxons were taken by another charge. The horses would bite and kick. His spear hit a saxon on the chest, making him go forth a small instance, forcing another one behind him to fall and lose his helmet. Richard's sword, Le Lyon, hacked on the unprotected head of the saxon, fracturing his skull. He nudged it off as the light left the man's face. Lyon was tinted red.

ooc: remember guys, this charge won't defeat them, it is a hit & run attack We need to give time for the other players that aren't here to fight as well (something I forgot once already lol)

Alan fought fiercely. His blade was coated with blood of dead Saxons. Then came the order to charge. Alan lifted the reins of his horse and charge with the other knights. Under them Saxons began to fall.

Robert fought by the Dukes side as he had done many times before. Regretfully 2 of his finest knights were lost in the fray which only served to spur him on as he decapitated several English prisoners and threw their heads into the English army.

Odo the Bishop rides into the fray holding a mace he rides towards the Saxon lines

    Screaming Out

God says a man of God may not spill blood but says naught on killing Saxon scum. For God and for the Duke we shall triumph.

With these words he swings his mace at a huscarls head fracturing his skull but not spilling a drop of blood and thus following the rule of God.

William rode next to his Lord, exhilarated by the rush of the battle. He charged into the fray, sword at the ready, he instantly decapitated an Englishman, sending a plume of blood into the air and the body sprawling into the mud. Around him lay carnage, he could make out the Duke in the distance, fighting off many enemies at once, he had the upper hand. William smiled before returning to concentrate on the matter at hand. Moments later, for some unknown reason to him, his eyes returned to the Dukes horse once more, his mind registered something with shock. The Duke was no longer sitting upon the saddle, instead a group of Englishmem swarmed over the spot. William wheeled round on his warhorse, sitting low in the saddle, he charged towards the group, as he rode he grabbed a spear tha had been left in the back of a Norman knight, he flipped the spear into a lance position, and hammered forward in his attack. The spear pierced the chest of an English knight, throwing the mail clad man back into the dirt, he drew his sword again, jumping from his charger and right into the fray of men eager to reach his Lord. His sword arm ached from the hacking as he neared the center of the circle. He broke the rank of men, reaching the Duke who had been holding off the attack. "My Lord," William shouted over the din of the battle, "Are you alright?" as he spoke William raised his shield slightly into a more comfortable position, then jumped in surprise as an arrow hit the large shield rigth at the top, he looked down at the steel head of the arrow, poking through the thick wood, he turned to the Duke a look of surprise in his eyes, had he not moved his arm merely seconds earlier, the Duke would no longer be standing there...

Gosse wheeled his steed to the right and adjusted his helm, which had gone askew in the fighting. Fresh blood dripped from his sword as he gave it a soft twitch with the rush of battle coursing through him. A faint snarl lined the knights face as his newest victim, an altogether poor man from the look of his hewn padding and torn shield, fell to the ground clutching his shoulder and gurgling blood. He surveyed the men in front of him, two of which seeming to have taken notice of their fallen comrade and rushing to fill his position.

Moving forward quickly, Gosse cleaved one man's unhelmted head nearly in two, and quickly turned beginning to hack at the other, which was now within striking distance.

Odo yells out waving his club above his head.

Forward men to victory this is the greatest of all days. God commands that we win this day. Harold Godwinson swore an oath on sacred relics to support our Duke in his claim for the throne of England. He has broken this sacred covent before God and thus he should die.

The Duke took his hand and got up fast, going to his horse and jumping on him. I owe you my life, good sir! He said, slashing another english as he did so. Do remind me to repay the debt! He slashed another.

The Duke lives, the Duke lives Odo calls upon the men of the lines to cry this out. He wheels his horse to just behind the battle line he rides back and forth banging his mace on the shield.

After a strong attack, the Saxons started closing in on them, Richard was satisfied. The horn was blown and it was signalized for them to fall back. Richard left the hill with many scrapes and cuts, but no serious damage. He went to the encounter of Gile, together with his men. Now the Saxons were like a trapped animal on top of his cage. Its death was iminant... but it still had fangs.

ooc: I'm just assuming that everything we say is in French/Norman, cos we are Normans. Most of us shouldnt be able to speak English tbh.

Holding his sword aloft a young blonde soldier bedecked in azure and white staggered through the battle lines, visibly favouring his left side and covered in the filth of combat. He had lost his horse some time ago when an opportunistic Saxon warrior had slain it with a vicious axe blow, one that Michel himself had narrowly avoided taking in the thigh. The axe itself had become stuck in the neck of the beast and Michel took a quick swipe at the now disarmed Saxon before throwing himself off. By the time he recovered, both from the confusion of the jump and the sudden realisation that his right leg was cut and bleeding profusely, the Saxon has disappeared into the chaos.

The now dismounted Michel immediately made to retreat, fighting and dodging his way towards the relative safety of the Norman line he passed an ailing lord on a rather fine looking horse that seemed to be simply wandering across the battle field. A cursory examination revealed that the man in question wasn't going to be alive for much longer, and as such wouldn't need this mount. Michel struggled to get him off for a moment before finally tearing him away and throwing himself onto the panicked horse.

It took the best part of a minute for him to properly become saddled and secured, as well as gain control of the fractious horse, and upon hearing the horn sound he fell in with the rest of the cavalry.

IC: Sandor Clegane Comes roaring into the battle leading an infantry assault. He hacks bloody swathes through enemy ranks, saying "KILL ME DAMMNIT! I WILL TAKE YOUR SWORDS AND **** your wives em!"
"WE WILL SMITE THE INVADERS FROM OUR SKIES! Though they sweep over our lands like the sands of winter, never again will we bow before them; never again endure their oppression; never again endure their tyranny. We will strike without warning and without mercy, fighting as one hand, one heart, one soul. We will shatter their dreams and haunt their nightmares, drenching our ancestors' graves with their blood. And as our last breath tears at their lungs; as we rise again from the ruins of our cities...they will know: Helghan belongs to the Helghast." -Scholar Visari

Adelard found himself in in the battle not fair from the Duke. His shield was by now effectively scrap. His horse he knew yet lived, but he did not know where. He cursed once more the Huscarl that hard knocked him loose... He took out his frustration on a half trained levy soldier who hacked at him with an axe. He nearly took the man's head. Off. Another Huscarl came hacking at Adelard from his vulnerable left. Forcing Him to dive away or else be chopped in two. As fortune had it, the Saxon's axe stuck itself firmly in the wood of a discarded shied upon the ground.. allowing Adelard to finish him quickly. Sensing a presence behind him, he turned with a slash... stopping short upon seeing the form of his trusted master at arms, Roland Ward. With a quick grin and a short motion... Roland guided Adelard back to the rest of his scattered retinue. Now regrouped, Adelard pushed forward.. toward's the Duke's banner and the thickest fighting.

Blackmon found himself isolated amongst a horde of Saxon warriors. His life seemed to flash before his eyes... Everything from the beginning of his memory leading up to joining with the Normans in attempting to conquer England, out of hopes of gaining a new reputation in this new land, regardless of ethnicity. The Saxons seemed rather unaware of him, instead focusing on other Normans and watching their flanks.

However, one huscarl noticed he was not Saxon, and charged at him with his axe held high. Guy instinctively ducked, and used his small knife to cut at the legs of the warrior. The man fell, not dead, but the impact had probably given him a concussion. However, the brief commotion had attracted the attention of two more sword-wielding Saxons. One reached out and ripped Guy's shield from his hand with ease, and prepared to stab Guy in the chest, before a Norman charge distracted Guy's attacker, giving him enough time to tackle the Saxon and slit his neck. Before the dead Saxon's companion regained his senses, Guy pulled a second dagger from his belt and ran it through the enemy's back, warm blood oozed down from the wound, and the Saxon was yet still dazed. The cavalry charge had given Guy enough time to retreat from Saxon ranks back into his Norman allies' army.

It was not only military men that had assembled for the battle. Tancred Mortimer had delivered communion to several dozen soldiers before the onset of battle and then retired to a hillock to gaze at the spectacle. If his mouth hung open in awe, a tan scarf covered it. In fact, the only part of his face that remained uncovered at all were his eyes and obscenely large nose. Several monks under his direction now gathered, ready to risk life and limb to pull the wounded from the worst of the fighting and try to nurse them back to health- or else say some final prayers before they departed this world for the next. More often than not Tancred found himself administering last rites than reviving the wounded.

The battle began with a good deal of shouting and the noise of metal meeting metal. Without hesitation, Tancred sprang to his feet and his fellows began to silently run down the hill. Although the banners of the nobles advanced bravely, piles of slewn and wounded littered the field in the wake of the onslaught. Tancred grabbed one wounded man by the shoulders and began to pull him out, but soon the wound to his leg seemed like a secondary concern, as an arrow found its mark in his neck.

"How unlucky for you, my son." Tancred then knelt in the midst of the battle and producing a small vial of oil, blessed the man and closed his eyes as blood began to gurgle up from the throat. After prying the dead man's fingers from the crude wodden cross around his neck, Tancred continued in the bloody business, absolutely destroying his robes by staining it with mud and gore.

Simon opened his eyes just in time to see the blood spurt out of his foe's neck. His dagger left the Englishman's flesh with a stomach churning crunch. It had been rather unsporting, taking the man from behind like that, but it was all he could manage. In any case, corpses didn't need weapons, and this corpse held a sharp looking sword. Shoving the dagger into his belt, he picked up the sword and turned around just in time to block a Saxon with a mace from crushing his skull. He ducked the next swing, leaping to the ground. He rolled past the next strike and spilt open the warrior's stomach. Wiping the dirt from his face, he stood up as a friendly knight crashed into a squad of his enemies to his left. Simon continued trying to stay alive, thinking all the while about the mess he had gotten himself into.

The battle was progressing slowly, the youth of France and beyond bled and rolled from the accursed hill. Their Saxon foes, stood firmly behind their shield wall, absorbing the minor clashes along the battlefield, their strength was hard to gauge from the bottom of the hill. Geoffrey atop his horse motioned his squire to come forth, his servant from his manor ran forward bearing a silver bowl filled with frigid water - one of his few symbols of wealth. He washed his face clean, and steadied his shaking hands. He along with his contingent of men waited for their orders to attack.
