Richard's eyebrow raised. Surely the man had heard him speak in the Council meeting. Although he probably was too scared for fear of death to have noticed it all, though still it surprised Richard. I would have thought you to remember the ocasion, Sir Bartholomew. Your old master, William Perceval, passed the command over you and all the other vassals to his son, who is currently the Lord Buckingham. I granted the son the lands of the father in respect of past duties.

Richard really thought htis man was missinformed. My good knight, I am not under authority to give you any lands. You can only recieve lands from your Liege Lord, and I am not your liege lord, as stated in Terra Legis. When Lord Buckingham gains more lands you may ask him if he is willing to promote you to barony.

Well, the groom is a prince of the realm. Should the wedding occur in royal lands - perhaps here at Westminster? Unless you can think of a more suitable venue, of course, my king.

The largest dowry I can offer is 2500 crowns. It is not much, especially so for royalty, but it is the best I can manage. I do hope you are not offended, majesty.

2500 Crowns is a fortune in these times of war, you need not and should not feel embarassed by it. Said Richard understandingly. I accepted with glee and will add it to the war effort.

The two men bowed and made their leave. Gilbert de Vernon lingered before departing and bowed before the king once more.

He hurried off after his brother. Gilbert had an odd feeling that he would not get another chance to express his gratitude...
