Judging by the content and time period of FOTS it would seem that the American Civil War could be the next release after FOTS as an expantion. Do you agree?

No.
According to this poll, 80%* of TGW fans agree that "The mod team is devilishly handsome" *as of 12/10 (its true)
Too limited in scope.
A better question - after creating an expansion where they get panned for every unit being alike, why would the next total war be two mirror factions?
I think he meant sequel, not expansion.
Give me China and Korea, dammit.
That'd be pretty awesome, but I think you'll find that opinions will be drawn along national lines.
They'll probably find more acceptance with multinational wars like Rome, Medieval, and Empire.
The next Total War title won't be an expansion but a new full game, of which I bet it will be a Victorian era setting. The time period for it will be about 1830-1900 I think. While an American Civil War game would be to limited for a full title, it would be the perfect DLC campaign for Total War: Victoria, similar to RotS for Shogun 2, or Warpath for Empire.

Also, they could manage a Kingdoms style expansion with several campaigns. There were enough smaller wars in that time period to make it viable. Boer War, Crimean War, American Civil War, Opium Wars, America's Westwards Expansion.....the list goes on.
There were enough small wars in that time period to generate a lot of content, if CA have the manpower for it.
I dont like splitting it into a bunch of small campaigns. I prefer one big grand one.

Anyone considered an Imperialism Total War? Late 1800's early 1900's possibly even as far as WWI era due perhaps to the recent modernization of our navies? Would give a worldly scope, plenty of room for it.
You cannot pick and choose what to follow from your holy books. If you are truly a Christian, you must follow the bible by the letter. One read through Leviticus, where the disabled are barred from Church attendance, and homosexuals should be the least of your worry. It's the whole book or none of it, and to follow the whole book is to be immoral. So it goes.

If they do plan to run with the innovations currently in place and the new ones they are unveiling,a game set during the age if Imperialism does seem a likely candidate.Perhaps even parsed out in self contained campaigns
ala Kingdoms. It proved to be a very successful formula and probably the most well received and feature rich expansion to date.Would make sense to revisit a winning formula, especially since there are many variations found in the major conflicts of the era that demand extra attention.
I'm too starting to believe that the next full TW game is about Victorian or Imperialism era in the 19th century. Surely most of the people have hoped for Rome 2 and it has been the most plausible candidate, until now.
Seeing all the new features CA has implemented in FotS, it would feel a waste not to use them in a bigger scale. 19th century Total War would be a great challenge for CA, not only the game should display the evolution of warfare, but also the huge changes in the societies caused by the expansion of industrialism and also internal politics and major ideologies should have larger role. It would be a huge effort for CA to make such game.
The US Civil war would be an interesting TW game for sure, but the scope is so limited for a stand alone game.
Therefore I think, that the next major TW game is about 19th century, US civil war will be a DLC campaign just like RotS and WW1 will be released as a stand alone expansion just like FotS now, although I really wouldn't mind seeing Rome 2 next.![]()

I think ACW is strongly possible and perhaps WW1. Both are fine to me.
