Script?

When I started the campaign.. the advisor came up saying that the script was started automatically and I need to hit esc then click on teh question mark to start up the script every time I play the game..

One time I decided not to, and I didnt notice any differences. Can somebody explain what the script does exactly?

I think it gives the AI factions more money or sth. Also migt have something to do with mercenaries.
