    Default Desktop Computer won't load

    Similar problem to this thread:

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=375501

Normally when I start up the computer I get the AMD screen, a few pages of code appear and dispear and I then get a screen asking me to choose between Ubuntu and Windows 7.

Instead after the first screen I get this error message:

    Verifying DMI Pool Data ….................
    Boot from CD:
DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

I have used Sim's bootrec.exe/fixmbr and /fixboot instructions that solved the problem last year but this time they have no affect. The only thing that works is the same thing that I temporarily used to fix the problem in 2010/11 - putting the windows disk in at start up and for some reason it boots.

Suggestions? ATM I can't access Ubuntu and having the disk in at start up is only a temporary solution.

have you tried changing the boot priorities from "boot from disk" to "boot from HD" (from the boot screen setup)

Which is your primary OS - Ubuntu or Windows? Do you have a system restore disc to fix any corrupt boot files for either OS? Lastly, have you tried resetting CMOS?

The default loader is Ubuntu and the choosing screen is an Ubuntu written one. I have tried to fix Windows using the windows disk but it didnt work. I think the problem is probably something to do with Ubuntu but I am not sure what and why it would stop me loading windows properly. I don't know CMOS is.

CMOS is a circular battery that stores all the bios information (as well as the time and other t hings) even when a computer is unplugged.

It looks like that... by removing it for 5 minutes it typically will reset the bios and the cmos settings.

If your Boot is being run by Ubuntu then you'll need a Linux disc to repair any damaged boot files. The Windows disc can't help you here. Darkpriest outlined the CMOS battery - remove it, wait for a healthy hour just in case, and then replace it. If that doesn't solve the problem then you may have corrupted boot files or something else I am not thinking of at the moment.

Do you have an Ubuntu Boot disc available? Inserting this and letting it run might solve your problem.

Also, you mentioned in your OP that you used a patch fix from Simetrical in the past. It would help me personally to see what his fix was so that I could help you more. Could you please link it here somewhere? Thanks and good luck!
