    Default Crash at Loading Screen to Battles

    Im currently playing an Isengard campaign. Whenever i load a siege battle, it crashes just as the bar has finished loading with an unspecified error. I checked my log and i get this.

    Apologies for necro - I also got this Building DB error in my log, although I should make clear I am using Baron Samedi's submod I guess you haven't found a solution?

    Edit; I'm attaching my savegame here in the hope Germanicu5 might see it, as the chap from this related thread had his issue fixed before uploading his. Perhaps it could be useful in shedding some light as it crashes consistently at the high elves turn giving the same Building DB error for all factions, rather than on random battles. I've managed to find quite a few other threads which feature this bug but none seem to have been resolved...

    The Building DB error - culture db max settlement error is a script error warning and will not cause the game to crash. I have this in my log file as well playing the vanilla version and have not had a single CTD since I have started playing v3.1. I have completed four complete campaigns, high elves, dale, silvan elves and dwarves with no problems. If you look at the time difference between the script error warning and the system error that causes the game to crash, it is an enternity in computer terms. I suggest that you enable the trace function in your error logging to get a better idea of where the error is actually occuring.

    Here's how I fixed it on my game:

    Spoiler Alert, click show to read: 
    1. Search this in the export_descr_buildings(M2TW>TATW>data>): 'huge_stone_wall city requires factions' without the quotations!
    2. Now you should see this line: 'huge_stone_wall city requires factions { gondor, }'
    3. Change it to this: 'huge_stone_wall city requires factions '{ gondor, northern_european, mesoamerican, middle_eastern, eastern_european, greek, southern_european, }' With the Blue lines needing to be added.
    4. Press: 'Ctrl+S to save. Or go under 'File' and click 'Save'.
    There, it should be solved now

    If it's a joke, then it's not funny.

    Do not ever do that, it'll totally disrupt custom settlements and make them appear in random cities across the map after a while or you'll end up with vanilla settlements instead of custom.

    Also building db error has nothing to do with any CTDs and isn't relevant.

    I'll check the savegame after I install BS mod, for what I've seen it was made in a hurry (my achievement mod got "mutilated" for instance).

    Any change you did it in the new MOS? Maybe it's causing the crash?

    Wow, thanks Germanicu5! Really appreciate it - if I could sell you some spare time I would, but I'm afraid all I can offer you is +rep

    Edit; BTW I did try Trailhogs advice earlier before seeing your post, it did resolve the Building DB error (log didn't show any errors) but the game still crashed on the High Elves turn. Have changed it back as per your advice.

    I am having a similar problem and the log is showing the same error message. However it seems to happen very randomly for me, getting on the loading screen going into a battle (in the campaign) the screen sometimes turns all black and doesnt load any further. In the background I can hear the noise as if an error message has appeared on my desktop however I cant see the message or tab to it. Sometimes pressing enter will just close the game but other times it completely freezes and I have to restart my PC. This might happen 3 or 4 times in a row when trying to get into 1 battle but then trying again it will work fine, and other times I can get into a battle straight away. Ive just been accepting it up until now and restarting the game as many times as necessary for it to work but the game completely froze up twice in a short time and made me restart my pc and its very annoying. I have no sub mods installed, play on XP so cant be a vista/7 problem and I never had this problem playing 2.1.

    Any advice?

    Hi jf73, welcome to the forums

    Apparently the error in the log is not causing the crash, it just seems there's a few of us experiencing random crashes (although as previously stated mine always occurs at the same point, which doesn't seem to be the case for the majority that I've read - could perhaps be that I've got BS submod installed). Yours do sound quite severe though, mine is always a clean CTD.

    Anyway I'll leave any further advice up to the experts

    Edit - I saw the advice on how to post error logs rather than trace - here is mine in case it can be any use.

    I haven't gotten that far in this new build but I'll look at that when the time comes and bear it in mind.

    EDIT: I tested the old build and removing that didn't help...

    Well the thing is... I get the same error unless I apply my fix. The exact error... Word for word... What is causing this? I can't figure it out But if G says that my fix will corrupt custom settlements then that fix cannot be applied as I'm sure he knows what he's talking about. But just how is it fixed then?

    REEDIT: @Germanic5, I went and tested Moria as the HE and it worked fine with my fix applied. Does this mean it does work? Or will it not take affect until later in the game since it modifies huge_city?

    @Trailhog250

    I never meant instant effects, issues develop while the game is more advanced - for instance you'll lose any custom settlements that replace large city when upgrading to huge city (like elven one). Upgrading Dol Guldur will make it a plain huge city (or Minas Tirith - I'm forgetful), the same with Imladris.

    KK set up EDB this way for a reason, not because he did it by accident while creating TATW 3.0 custom settlements in 5 minutes.

    And these errors aren't relevant, so you're not fixing anything by eliminating them.

    I sorta figured it wouldn't take place right away..... That's interesting, the error shows up at the bottom of the EDB... So therefore I suppose you're 'hiding' it instead of 'fixing' it

    I have yet to figure out why this happens though... But if someone know then please post your findings.

    When I play a battle in campaign the game crashes and a message comes up that says Medieval 2 total war has encountered an error and will now now close if anyone could help me please I would really appreciate it

    Yeah... When I applied my changes (which I originally thought was a 'fix') it gave me the same CTD without the error in the log. It's likely but not certain your problem is the same as the ones above. The only crash I get is Minas Tirith W. Osg works, Moria works, and so does Erebor and it is a Huge City but it's also a generic Huge City... All cities work but Minas Tirith.

    @Trailhog - I managed to trace my particular bug to a problem with Talsir (held by Isengard) - the high elves were sieging it and when they took it the game CTD's. I managed to break the siege using some cheats, but it also CTD'd when I took Talsir myself a few turns later (playing as Eriador). I left it alone for about 80 turns and tried again - same result of CTD.

    Hope this info might be of some use! I've also posted it in the Baron Samedi compilation thread.

    I'm having a similar issue... When I played a campaign with just TATW 3.1, it worked fine. But after I added Baron Samedi's submod (Which is awesome, I love it) and started a new campaign, I keep crashing JUST as I'm about to enter a Siege battle. I'm playing the same faction, and with just 3.1 I sieged and took over the settlement just fine. But now on a new game, I crash. All it says is something like, "Medieval 2 has encountered an unspecified error and needs to close."

    What can I do to fix this?

    The newest versio of Baron S submod is really buggy. Try with the old 4.1
