Default A Guide to the TWC University

Welcome all to the TWC University, our very own place to share knowledge with each other from a variety of subjects, all in a dynamic school-like setting.

To quote my good friend gigagaia,

Why enroll as a student? You are getting the chance to take courses with more experienced modders, read their lectures, but more importantly, get vital feedback on assignments and ask questions in the classroom forums, helping you improve and grow!"

The University is open to a variety of courses, though emphasis is still on any of the skills that would be useful to members of our modding community. All that it takes to participate in a course it the willpower to do so! As long as you show up and do the work your professors give you, you should do just fine here. And in due time we can send you out the University doors into the modding world, ready to make the next biggest mod TWC will ever see. You all grow up so fast...

The University is currently overseen by Hader. You may PM him any questions you may have about it, or just post them here.

We look forward to seeing you all here, professors and students alike!

    A Tour of the Campus

Here is a quick guide to the structure of the University right now.

At the top of the University Main forum here, you should see two subforums. One is the Class Archives, the other the Classroom Hall. Their names are fairly straightforward, all past classes that are long concluded have their material kept away in the Class Archives. You can easily view these old subforums and look at old class lessons, making it easy for you to do more of a teach yourself method of learning from the lessons of old. The Classroom Hall is where all currently ongoing classes are kept. Any class that is concluded with is moved to the Archives promptly. If you are not a student for an ongoing class in the Classroom Hall, then you will not be able to post in there. Only registered students for a class are given both viewing and posting rights.

The main University forum here is just a place of congregation. You will also see signup threads for courses posted here by their respective professors whenever they are ready to take students, and any other relevant University announcements. If you ever have any questions, or you want to gauge interest for a certain type of course, feel free to post it in the University main forum. As long as you are learning something here, feel free to post anything.

While there are no real restrictions on who can signup for any class (save any prerequisites per the instructor), students are all expected to behave here just as they are anywhere else on this site. While you likely won't be removed from a course over a note or infraction, any quick accumulation of infraction points or anything resulting in your banning from the site for any amount of time will not confer upon you an excuse to not participate in any course you are in. If your professor is feeling extra nice and lets you complete material weeks after it was done because you were banned, then that is their choice, but don't count on that happening.

Successful completion of any course, by the professor's standards for completion, grants you the TWC University Degree award, with 3 levels of bronze/silver/gold, named Bachelors/Masters/Doctorate. Seeing a course through to completion as a professor will grant you 'the dude' professor medal, and depending on the circumstances and specifics of the course may also grant you an honorary rank of the degree medal as well.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

Default Re: A Guide to the TWC University

I have just done a big purge of users in the University Students usergroup, most from classes from years ago and are no longer in need of student permissions here.

Those who might still be in the Motion Pictures course or Writing Course (though it's over by now I left students in there for the time being) are still part of the group. Those who are planning on taking the GIMP Basics II course soon here still need to apply to the University Students usergroup via their control panel.
