The Helios Monthly Writing Competition
Ladies and Gentlemen, as the recently appointed reporter on cultural and historical matters for the Helios, it gives me great pleasure to announce the Helios Writing Competition!
Every month, the Helios shall host a writing contest where members may post their pieces of writing (at the moment it is to be purely fiction, we may decide to hold non-fiction competitions later), after which the best shall be chosen by a panel of judges and a members poll. The winner will get their article featured in the Helios' new section, Essay of the Month, where the Helios' readers have the chance to pump up the winner's ego-I mean reputation ( ). Two volunteers are needed to become judges.
The rules are as follows:
1) The submission must be completely original. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited (Offenders will be taken to the public square and have a P branded on their cheek. )
2) The maximum number of words is 1000. Judges have the right to exercise this rule at their own discretion.
3)Editing one's text will be allowed, but only if it is done before someone else posts their entry. We do not want any cheating going on.
4)The content and language of the entry must abide by the laws and customs of TWC (i.e forum rules).
5) All patrons are allowed to take part in the contest.
6)One submission per member only.
For the judging: Two volunteers will be selected by me (I don't mean I will conscript people, just choose out of the volunteers the two required judges) to act as judges. They will each select an essay as the best one. A poll shall also be opened to democratically select an essay.
The judges and the poll have one vote each. Should the two judges agree on one essay, their choice shall be declared the winner. However, if the two judges and the poll each differ in their result, the winner of the poll shall be declared winner of the competition.
The contest shall begin once the two judges have been selected and shall remain open for one week. After that time the thread will be closed and the poll shall open, also for one week, after which the winner shall be announced.
The judges: Americ and King Henry V.
The Contestants (so far): GrimSta, Rez, Shyam Popat, Anselm, the Seleucid Empire, Melchior, turtle and Keresztes.
