Icon3 [BATTLE RELEASE 1 & 2] The Battles of Elder Wood and Haagen Pike

RE-UPLOADED BATTLES - DOWNLOADS SHOULD WORK

THE BATTLE OF ELDER WOOD - An Historical Battle featuring the Lindiri forces of Lord Willow vs The Sun King himself.THIS RELEASE CONTAINS THE FIRST BATTLE OF HAAGEN PIKE featuring the East Empire and the the Wolfborn.

The green skinned man bowed deeply as he approached the High Lord of the Lindiri, his gaze transfixed upon the earthern floor, where creepers bound themselves together, trailing thickly to form arches to the left and right of him, flowers growing, entined within the arches, blooming wonderfully all year 'round. Colours blazed across the Royal Court, unaffected by the weather beyond, for here it was ever summer.

'They have bound the Ferak animists to servitude my Lord. The stories were correct; the cat folk are tied to this dwelling they called Ruhr, where they live in abodes much like men, and are forced to keep these herds of wild animals we hear about - there is no hunting my lord, no selection, no weeding of the unfit. Their meals do not wander free, but are driven to their deaths.'

The High Lord nodded, his visage grim, his eyes shining with a wonderful light, yet it changed colour, and an ice like rage set in, terrible to behold. 'Fetch the Feydakir, Lord Willow, for we must address this wrong. We have taught men, protected them, and they give us this in return. How dare they! We gather a host and will march to free our creations from this bondage. Never will we see such behaviour again, once we have destroyed the 'masters' of this abhorrence.'

Lord Willow nodded, his copper crown glinting. He withdrew with another bow, and others gathered to him immediately. He gave orders, and Fey ran to carry out his and their High Lord's commmands. The High Lord would not move to war, but Lord Willow acted in lieu, adorned with his decree. Human blood would flow; an unfortunate thing, yet truly necessary.

    ---

In the COurtyard below Lord WIllow's Weirdenbond Walls, warriors gathered. Hundreds of ANimist warriors collected - Horned SOns, and the heavy footed Taurcenians marched into view, their shaggy heads and huge axes swinging without grace. ALready the Kelusindrai were here; as ever, the veteran Feydaen warriors were in perfect formation, and would be joined by others - the Noble Archers were the best the world had ever seen, their strong bows enchanted with Ley Magic, firing summoned shafts of pure Lindir Ley Channelling, summoned to kill, then returned to the Dragon.

Once all were formed, they turned perfectly, and their host marched through Willow's gatehouse, to file to the East, an army based on emancipation and the vengeance of Celibh is wrathful form. This SUn King would know defeat in mere days. The Fey did not relish slaughter as did the animists, but they recognised the need for killing when it arose for good reason, and they were bent to this task without regret.

    -------------------

High in the Celophegan mountains lies the Palance of the Sun King, hidden partially within the cavernous ruins of a defunct volcano. Where once it had erupted in fire, it now tenderly held this marvel of pale stone, the shifting skies bathing it in the red ltones of Dwan, to turn to shadows at dusk, whereupon the vast Duskfires drove away the darkness as it was born. The fertile volcanic soil gave birth to wondrous gardens, and many species of flower existed only in this remarkable solitude. Once know to both Lindiri and Selediri, it was a forgotten realm and man had claimed it, albeit men of a high nature.

Riders slowly circled their descent, men mounted on the shining Hippogriffs that bore the King's finest warriors. Even as they tyouched the earth, they leaped from their mounts and carried their news with haste.

Mailian Elephaer sprinted through the corridooors, barely avoiding the Sabine Guard who saluted as he pounded his way into the Rotyal Court, a wall of sun and mirrors. Reaching the steps to the throne, he delivered his mesage, laced with apologies for his behaviour. The forest folk had been sighted, for the first time in many years, but recogniseable to any who had studied their legends and myths. Normally, this would bring joy and wonder, but this caravan of elves and their talking beasts was armed to the teeth and on an undeniable course for the SUn Kingdom and the border garrison at the Elder Wood - more a force to observe old customs and keep the shrines safe than a force to cbaulk invasion.

    -----------

The forces at the SUn Palace were never large in number, but they were of the best in quality. Adaeas, King, gathered all he could - the Royal Skyhorse, of course, and those of the 'guard'; Exilian Guard, exiles of a long dead kingdom, destroyed by incursions of abyssal legions; The Royal Sabines; The Styxian Watch, garbed in red; the resplendent Sacred Band. They would gather the Young SOns at the Elder Wood, and those of the nearby city of ELis as they marched. SPeed was a necessity in the extreme, and they would march without rest for two days, then slow their approach; if the Elder Wood shrines were pressed, they would fall back, and meet a refreshed force led by the SUn King. Adaeas hoped there would be parley; he desired at least to KNOW why his land was held accountable to somewhat dire enough for open warfare.

    ------------

Lord WIllow and Adaeas rode to meet under flags of truce, to a grand tent meant solely for this purpose; at least the Lindiri had honour, and they followed the old ways, a fact of relief for the Sun King.

They drew together, and Adaeas pulled his crested helm from his head, letting the chain mesh and scale mail hold to his features. Lord WIllow wore no helm, his strange colourings and striking features almost glowing in the fading light. Each studied the other. Beside Lord WIllow was one of the Taurcenian Guard; a massive shaggy headed bull-man, whose breathing rasped and shook as it's eyes met the SUn King's. He could see the anger within and shuddered at the thought they may meet this beast, and more of them, on the morrow. He could only hope the Sacred Band's pikes were sharp and ready for their charge.

'You stand accused of enslavement; a dire crime in the eyes of the Free Fey, my Lord', spoke WIllow, stiff and formal.

'In what way, Lord Willow? We enslave nothing and no-one; onlky the SIlken Scourge of Ashapur call that their right. We believe in no such thing.'

'You imprison our creations in the farm knwn as Ruhr, where they are forced to eat captive herds and work to your ends. Our cause is emancipation, and we will meet on the morrow. I believe there is little more to say on this matter. You would seek to divert us with deceit, and we cannot alloow diversion from this righteous path. ' He nodded. 'On the morrow them, at the dawn your Kingship takes it's name from.' He turned to leave.

'You know, your people were known to us once, Willow, and they came and friends and teachers. If fight we must, then we will spare all who surrender for there will be no slaughter by us.'

Willow sighed. 'There will none who surrender, SUn King.' Hornsw blared and the SUn King quietly replaced his helm. 'Ah well', said his adjunct, SIlai, 'tomorrow we die alongside the best we have,, Lord. Let us take peace from that.'

    -------------------

Many miles hence, a long column of figures walked an rode, led by a few of the Sisters, the Moonmaidens, mounted on their beautiful horses. These were the Ferakine, the 'slaves' the Lindiri referred to; the Cat People of the city of Ruhr - not a slave race, but an honoured ally, and they moved swiftly to stop the battle that would ensue should they delay. Theirs was a terrible choice - to fight for the King they loved, or to leave with their creators, or even fight them. SUch would be a choice stolen from them on the next day's high sun.

    ------------------

The SUn rose, bright and early, tracing a sheet of fire across the waking sky; a Blood Dawn, they called, when shepherds watched the hills for raiders or beasts, and the men on duty in secluded watchpoints drew their cloaks nearer and strung their bows. Elsewhere, nervous lads called 'Dawn Watch, and all's well.' across town walls, even as they stole glances and hoped this wasn't THAT day, a Blood Dawn under which, the mute rows of corn became a killing field, and warriorsdrew nervous breaths.

None could be more nervous than those of the SUn King. He himself stood in the Dawn Light, and laughed a welcome to his old friend, come to see whether he would stain the hills with the blood of his foes or his own. His men took position around the hill incline, as best they could, and strung bows, checked spears, sword edges and hefted shields in that last inspection they all hoped to never have to make again. Today was a good day, and they were the SUn Kingdom's best. Their king stood with them and was shouting welcome to the Blood Dawn; a good sign. They smiled grimly, but ever their glances went to the ranks of their foes, silence greeting them, save for the occasional moan from the monsters with the bulls' heads. They were vast, and they hefted massive axes like a dagger. What would it take to stop THEM? More than the had? Ah, well, this would soon become apparent. A flicker of green light, errie and menacing shot across the ranks of the bowmen that stood like statues, the Fey of old. SO much about this foe was unknown, but fate would lend her gaze and see the smaller host stand with their King, to live or die with him, for him, and for their love of him, his honour, his laugh and his roar.

    Sabine Guard closed ranks about him, and he was raised on a shield, his voice raw;

"Men! As we stand here, I can see the fear in your eyes. I can see the desperation gripping your hearts. And rightly so. For we are surrounded and outnumbered. And yet, I have hope. For we fight for what is right, and I say: Fear not! For our enemy, blinded as they are, accusing us of enslaving those who we proudly call our allies, cannot gain victory when fighting against what is upright and true! Let them hear your warcry! Let us fight for our allies! Let us show them what it means to fight the truth! To battle!!"

As one, hundreds of hungry voices roared: 'Our King!!'. SOme screamed private litanies and the chant began to thunderas the Lindiri lines began to move; 'One SUn, One King, One SOul!'

    -----------------

Below them, Lord WIllow seemed mystified. 'What does all of this noise MEAN? They ALWAYS do this, damned humans; and it was us that saved them.' His voice descended to a mumble, and he recieved his messengers with utter stoicism, his eyes glinting as the companies reported in. Lines of his own folk stood, their lines flexing, and their pean began; a beautiful sound, one not heard enough in the last years. Taurcenian Guard rorared as they lumbered forwards. Bows bent, held and released. Hundreds of shafts sped high. The SUn King's men replied in kind, but the Fey Bowmen let fly, and green lights flickered, speeding high, to drop like stones; where they struck, men fell in droves; for these were Ley Bows of old, and nothing stood against them. He signalled, and horns blared. STrapping hsi last armour on, he swept to his feet, and his guard fell into place about his graceful form. One last smile to his men, and his shrill cry launched an all out assault on the Sun King's tiny hill. 'Lalindhe aelaeri! Faedaen Farisae - utuhne!!'

Elsewhere, others sighed deeply in relief; it was not THEIR day: but for the hundreds on the hill, the Blood Dawn would still their voices, steal their souls. Such beauty, such terrible, pitiless indifference. Such is the Blood Dawn.

    THE FACTIONS:

THE LINDIRI (Eldest We - Elves of the Living Earth)

The Lindiri are the Elves of the Earth, wild and capricious on one hand, yet wonderfully caring, placid and youthfully inspired on the other. They were raised by the Celesti Elves and given charge of the general flora and fauna of the world, their children and wards - where other elves were given demesne over the Avatars and more magical Creations, the Lindiri were gifted the actual body and its many life forms.

The Lindiri were never jealous of the other elves, but they developed the ability, in almost genetically surgery, to awaken their charges. They could give them the ability of speech, could bend their skeletons, give them segmented bones and bring even flowers to an awakened state; they would be able to communicate with all creatures and all plants, trees and flowers...to this end their watchful care of the Earth was given to perfection.

There is much history, much violence, betrayal and torture, but we come finally to now. The Lindiri hold two kingdoms, east and west, and they now mass within their Weirdenwoods...the forests where trees walk and beasts that frighten children in stories stalk the night air, yet these creatures are not as frightening as they seem...even the greatest of the awakened are seen holding butterflies and dancing with Faedweyr maidens under the moon and stars.

Beauty exists everywhere within their realms, but they are under threat from outside - the Federation especially holds them in disregard. To that purpose the Lindiri nobles, the original elves, the Faedweyr gather their awakened 'animists' to them and are beginning to gather for what may be the survival of their culture and its charges. The Kelusindrai march clad in mail, Faeweyr archers form up in battalions next to the Oaken Brood, the Horned Suns - Ravenshrouds awaken once again, sensing death, and they train together for one purpose: war!

THE SUN KING (or KINGDOM OF THE SALIENT SUN)

Simply known as 'The Rebellion' by the empire, the realm of the Sun King became a part of the Empire after all city-states were assaulted simultaneously. Spurhawks swiftly gained control of the walls, and huge war engines smashed gates in and rained fire upon the defenders.

Quickly taken, the Sun King capitulated, escaped and went into exile within his own realm. For many years the youth of the Sun Kingdom went to war for the empire - the 'Young Shields', returning after at least ten years of service. This system was the undoing of the Empire in the east however, for they had thousands of veteran soldiers in the wake of the indentured service.

With this base of fighting men, the Sun King, Lyscila, gathered the Ferakine to him - very few of these awakened/ bipedal cats dwelled within the city state of Ruhr any more, and he gathered them swiftly from their places of hiding. With these accomplished forces, he struck at the city garrisons with at least three times their number. Swiftly, the city states were relieved of all Imperial forces, and the Rebellion had started.

The lands of the Sun King now gather all to hem. The Lions of Eryn have gathered; Icarine Knights; the dour Exilian Guard - all have come to the banner of their beloved King. Few know where this will take them, but the Sun King is prepared for war!

Right. Download the mod here, below. Inside the zipped file is a folder called 'Dragonborn'....

DO NOT JUST THROW THIS IN THE SEGA>MEDII>MODS FOLDER IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A DRAGONBORN MODFOLDER - DELETE OR CHANGE THE NAME OF THAT FOLDER

    FIRST!!

    DOWNLOAD LINK http://dfiles.eu/files/5h4rtq4s8?redirect

    DOWNLOAD LINK ALTERNATIVE http://rapidshare.com/files/2706027235/Dragonborn.rar

NOTE: DO pm me if you can't get to this. I CAN upload to other sites, or make sure someone else will.

Now, for those that know these things, it's simple indeed. Just download, unrar/zip the modfolder and stick the Dragonborn folder from INSIDE the folder created when unzipping into your mods root folder in MedII...in other words, it's fully modfoldered
    ------------------------

    For everyone else.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Open Program FIles>Sega>Medieval Total WarII (or whatever the folder the game's in on your pc), then open the mods folder

Put the Rar file of Dragonborn in the root of the mods folder

THEN Go to unzip, brining up the path the unzipping software gives you for extraction

Where it says /Dragonborn as the final word, this will install the ACTUAL mod folder INTO a folder called dragonborn.

We don't want this, so delete the word dragonborn.

Then unzip...it will unzip into the mods folder of medII as a folder called simply Dragonborn.

Here, I've now entered that folder

NOW, to get a desktop shortcut, make a shortcut to the batch file Dragonborn (in the pic above) then drag the shortcut to desktop

IF the game beings windowed. If you want it to be fullscreen, you doubleclick on the Dragonborn cfg file, below the batch file, as shown here - open it

    Then change

    windowed = true

    to

    windowed = false

    Ta Dah! FUll screeen

This may seem utterly ridiculous to show to some people, but, trust me, when I first tried to put a mod in, I was utterly bemused by it all, so I thought I'd give this guide...I hope it makes saense and stuff. Pm me if you have any probs, or write here. SOrry if it's not very good

    --------------------

NOW there have been real problems with battles, but these should be clean enough to work. Do tell us of any problems. We really want you to enjoy the game, so it's no good to us if you can't play it.

    --------------------

I thought, if you're not sure whether to download the game, then you may wish to see some screens, SO ta dah!!

Heh, it's kind of something to do with you too Pilgie. BUT, yes, it's wonderful to release another...already trying to work out what and when the next would be. Guess I'll think then involve the community again next time too.

ANywa, we still plan to keep these coming. They're great fun and they reveal BITS of what we're doing, and we're working on the rest in the meantime. I think it's a nice thing to be able to do.

I managed to lose as the Lindiri in my first battle, but I won as the Sun King and then I won when I tried the Lindiri again using some tactics instead of just sending everything straight into the middle

Hi Squeaks, I will check it out.

Here is something I whipped up real quick, new battlefield blood and dirt textures. They are pretty gory, maybe too much for some .

Download Blood N' Guts v1, Blood Lust and install to desktop and manually overwrite the folder or files. Compatible with everything, everywhere.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Blood N' Guts v2, Little Less Gore. Similar blood and splatter affect, just a little less of it.

Should go good with your battle release... if you like gore .

On a side note, 2shared.com is a good and free upload site.
