Well you have to understand it from a losers standpoint .Naturally after losing dark souls I am more excited for alchemy and am impatient for its result to come out hoping that this time I can improve and remove my lose tag as fast as I can .

I think the current way works well enough.
@ mad orc: there is no losing on this forum, when you submit, you win no matter the vote. Instead, look at your text (dark souls for example) and think on what you would have changed, not to win, but to improve it, to make it worth your own time in writing and developing it.

Darkan, your post has me imagining a coat of arms (and motto) for the Writers' Study. I have no idea what most of it should look like, but the motto has to be "To have entered is to have won".
(Great post, by the way. I always think producing a qualifying entry is a pretty big achievement in itself.)
But what about my impatience to err 'improve'???My writing is bad most of the time so i do get impatient .

Well, mad orc, here are two pieces of advice I've read in a lot of places:
1. Write. Write more. Keep writing. And every so often, go back and look at an old piece of your writing, and work out how you could have done it better.
2. Read. Read well-written books. If you want to write in English, read books that were written in English.
I'm afraid it's like any other skill, though - improving takes time, and patience.
Actually i am saying why i want TOTW present structure to stay .But your advice is good anyday .

I noticed that two of the contestants in TotW 262 have posted two different word counts for their entries, so I thought I'd just pop in here and remind everyone that the site WS staff use to check your word count is this one. This is the word counter linked to in the 'Check your word count!' thread.
It doesn't make any difference at all in the current competition, of course.
Just to avoid any possible confusion for the future, though, the word count that matters is the one given by the site linked to above. We know it doesn't give the same results as the counter in Word. We also know that not everybody has Word. (I don't, for instance.) The wordcounter.net site is something we all have access to, so it provides us with a standard way of counting that everybody can use.
I am aware of the counter the TotW uses and I always use it, I only gave the alternate one to enhance the readers' experience.

I think the new system could be good for the comp, the extra time gives it more weight and the contestants will have double the time to produce something good.
It´s a quality vs quantity question in the end, and I would choose quality any day.
And to those who might be nervous about their chances of improving are halved because of the new structure, Caillaigh is spot on about keeping up the writing. Write for yourself, put it up in the CW forum, whatever it is just write some. You are not bound to write exclusively for the TotW.
Not that I am some great exemplary figure, but if it helps I have entered the TotW sooo many times, and lost all but one I am pretty sure. Just write for yourself because that´s what matters.
Btw nice to see people on here, I used to hang here ages ago, happy to see there is still a good community going!

Really enjoyed the theme for 263... I can't believe 'brick' was the key word I struggled most with fitting in.

Thanks, Caligula. It's done. All the current WS competitions should now have up-to-date submission threads showing the images of the medals. If anyone spots anything else we need to update, please let us know!
[Edited to add: OK, so this morning's internet problems caused more trouble than I'd thought. Now the OP should be right!]
