TotW 260 is going to end soon (thankls to anyone who has voted!), here's a little update:

we'll use it from TotW 261 onwards and keep it if it works or use the old one if it doesn't.

This means there will be a two weeks submission period for TotW 261 and the submission period for TotW 262 starts with the voting period of TotW 261, and so on.

Step One of my plan to take over TotW has been successfully initiated. Muwhahahahaha.
Hopefully it'll work out well, if anyone has any criticisms of it speak up now before it goes ahead.

For this week's prompt, aren't ember and cinder pretty much the same word, or at least incredibly similar in meaning?

You're right, they are similar words. As I see it, an ember is still burning, while a cinder is partially burned (and capable of being re-ignited). The combination of those two ideas - something which can ignite, something which has been burned before and could be ignited again - might be the starting point of an interesting story.

I don't see having words with similar or even the same meaning in a Tale of the Week as a problem - of course, other people might see it differently.

I think it's a nice additional challenge, myself (as long as it doesn't happen all the time). I'm not claiming that additional challenges make my writing any better, mind you - but they are fun!

    Thats a great idea!

I'd been just about to go to sleep, now I've got to stay up to write this story lols. I've gotta say, it is a lot of fun being able to create these short stories.

Just got my first writer's study award! Just wanted to thank all the people who have read my silly stories over the years, it's been a pleasure

    Congratulations, Mhaedros.

I think it's safe to say - from the fact that you now have a medal to prove it - that the people reading the stories found it a pleasure, too.

Now I think a 4-way tie is a first for TotW. I think!

I went and had a look, and I think it's happened just once before, back in TotW 73b. (The original vote is here; the tie-break vote is here.)

But that might not count, since there was a slightly different set of rules...

mad orc, you don't need to ask anyone to come forward. All normal WS competition polls are set up so that once voting ends, any TWC member can see who voted. All you need to do is to find the poll, and then click on one of the numbers showing how many votes an entry received. You could click on the "3" at the top of that list, for instance. That will show you who voted for what.

This weeks' prompt was surprisingly hard, I'll try and write something soon though.

I agree with you, though that's where a couple of (5-6) beers come in and help out.

I always find a way to turn seemingly fantasy keywords into a realistic story .
Meanwhile i oppose the new structure of the tale of the week if my vote still counts .

Why mad orc? It doesn't make the competition take longer in a negative way, and it gives you an extra week. Heres my terrible little graphic of how it was, and is now.
