When you noticed one of your posts has disapeared from a thread, and you have reason to believe it has been deleted from a thread do not, and I repeat do not, repost it. If it has been deleted by a mod there is a reason. Give it a few minutes then check your inbox, or look for annoucements from a mod to see what you did wrong. If neither arrives contact a moderator from that part of the forum (you can find who that is by clicking on the "Forum Leaders" button at the bottom of the list of forums) and ask him what is up. We mods are human, except H&G who is a googlebot, and we make mistakes and may not inform you why the post is deleted. The moderator of that forum can find out easily for you.

So again, do not repost deleted posts. Doing so may result in a warning or even a suspension. If you do it accidently inform a mod and we can look at it and judge if it was an accident.

Well if someone isn't informed of a deletion, then the user is going to assume it didn't go through somehow and then repost it.

It is surely up to a moderator to say what is wrong with a post fairly soon after it was removed to prevent such eventualities.

I hesitate to jump into this, but is re-posting worthy of suspension? I only suspended one person when I was a UL and that was because they flamed me

We do make exceptions, and will let people off that show that the repost was a mistake. Most of the time however it is obvious as the member sees his post, and then returns to find it missing.

Re-posting is worthy of suspension if it is reposting a flame or troll, or continually reposting an off-topic post (spam) because it makes deletions useless and could affect the ability of Mods to keep order.

Why dont you just edit the problem post with something like "content removed, do not repost it" to avoid the confusion?

Because when you do that it is nearly impossible to restore the post, and it breaks the flow of the debate to see a lot of colored posts.

but Im with Ffips, surely editing the post is the way to go, just edit out the offensive comment.

I agree with libertine and I have observed it to be normal practice as a rule of thumb.

As I said in the other thread, since when have we been deleting many posts? Unless the post is intirely a flame or troll (in which case re-posting is the least of that posters worries) just the offensive part should be edited, the caution or warning given, the members name and the text that offended posted in the members to watch thread (or whatever you are using now). Posts rarely have no content of merit. Very rarely.

9/10 times I would do that, but for off-topic posts I delete, or posts that are only trolls or flames I delete. The only other time I would delete would be if I am seeking advice from someone else, and it is easy to restore a deleted post, but not an edited post.

I want to once more state my support for the editing of nasty items.

EDIT: in that case, just leave the post Farnan and wait for someone with less intrinsic bias to edit do it for you.

what kind of scam is this?

if a mod deletes your post they should pm you and tell you why

obviously if it's a post like the spell of white supremecists a little back, its obvious why the mods deleted the post

but when a post just up and disappears the mods should inform you

especially when theres dozens of mods for dozens of different forums

You know, there should be a feature were you get PMed everytime one of your posts is deleted, and the text of the post. I have never heard of one, though perhaps there is a mod for a newer version of vB that has it, for when we upgrade.

Yea if it were me, i'd only delete spam or offtopic stuff (then post something like "Spam/offtopic posts deleted"), and edit the others with reasons ie dont troll/flame etc

I would delete Flames and SPam and then post something like:

"Bad Person. You know better than flaming/spamming/trolling/etc. Post deleted. PM me with questions."

Or something like that. Or perhaps if you delete a post PMing them would help (although some people don't know how to check PM's...)
