Thread: Largest Battles?

    Default Largest Battles?

What are your Largest Battles in any Paradox game?

    Here's mine from Crusader Kings:

The total amount of units at the battle was Duke Reginald de Poitou with ~28,000+ men (+8 additional Generals, of which 3 Retreat). King Ramaz Bagratuni with ~32,000+ men (+8 additional Generals, of which 2 retreat, 2 die).

The Battle started on August 14, 1296, and ends in October 3, 1296.

Ahhhh man, I wish this was up earlier. I remember in one of my games as the Ottomans (EUIII Magna mundi mod) I was at war with the Austrians. In one battle I had something like 100,000 soldiers while they had 60,000. I actually ended up with a pyrrhic victory and I lost the war because of it. I was also at war with Poland and a couple of German states, Russia declared war almost right after that defeat. This was sometime during the late 1500s early 1600s, can't remember.

The battle could probably have gone on for >1 year more, but I began to get bored with it, so made a landing of 15 divisions in the Netherlands and attacked their forces to relieve the siege.

And despite what the battle says, the majority of the 1 million enemy soldiers were in fact German

EU3 MP game. A battle in the south of Italy with myself as Sicily as the defender and Italy (Abbews) and Burgundy (10GreenBottles) as the attackers.

The combined Italian-Burgundian army, numbering 243,000 men in total, met the Sicilian Army of 172,000 men in the province of Abruzzi.

82,771 men died, of which 7122 were Sicilian dead, 75,649 were Burgundian-Italian.

The Burgundian-Italian army actually won the battle (none of the three of us understand why ) but the war continued because my army retreated into a province where I had another 25,000 men trying to march to the battle. Set up a new defensive line there and the Burgundian-Italian armies were too badly mauled to attempt to chase my army to rout.

Battle's been going on for roughly a month ingame now. HoI III, Soviet campaign, Götterdämmerung scenario.

No screenie. But, however, I can say it is quite pathetic how poorly my men are doing >_>

I have around 574,000 men in Six armies surrounding and attacking a German-controlled province(Vitebsk) which is surrounded by my land(a remnant of one of their springboards into my territory). I also have 30 planes in around 12 air wings flying bombing and ground attack raids on the defenders.

There are about 62,000 Defenders and 3 Planes defending Vitebsk, and currently my men have been fighting for weeks on end just to get to the range of 66% captured. And they are apparently horrible at fighting because they keep getting pushed back to the range of ~55% captured. It's ridiculous, especially because the Germans don't have any armor to speak of in the province - one Brigade of Light Armor and several dozen of Motorized, Mechanized, and Mountain troops holding off the better half of my Belorussian Front.

Comrade Chernov, sounds like you're sending all of those troops to attack at once, and are probably suffering from outrageous stacking penalties. Click on the battle and hover over one of your units to see how back the stacking penalty is.

Well I'm not gonna send them in to attack piecemeal...

Send in 4 divisions per attacking province and you shouldn't have any stacking penalties. Don't use 30 bombers but rather 6 split into 2 wings of 3, 1 for day attacks and 1 for night attacks.

i can't remember exact numbers, but during my first ottoman campaign (EUIII) around the year 1700 Austria declared war on me with their doom stacks of like 50k, I think that I ambushed one of them and two or three more stacks were drawn in, and the battle lasted a few months. I lost the battle but I think I depleted just about all thier man power.

Does HoI3 use HQ units to relieve armies of stacking penalties like HoI2 does? I know in HoI2 the USSR absolutely needs HQs given Germany's tremendous advantage in organization.

Yes, but I don't think it does so the same way since HOI3 has the entire OOB structure available (corps->army->army group->theater). The skill level of the general assigned to the theater HQ reduces the stacking penalty by 1% per skill level, so a level 3 leader assigned to a theater would reduce the stacking penalty by 3% for all units under it in the OOB.

My largest battle was a naval battle. Some 350 enemy ships against the Royal Navy (mine) which was about 120 strong. It was an MP game and I won that battle and many similar to it. Sadly, that ended in defeat because another player knew about the stacking penalties better.

2.200.000 Nazi germans against 450.000 Sicilians troops in V2. I have won that battle losing 300.000 men, against the 1.500.000 germans losses.
    It was epic.

I had a Portugal VS China battle in V2, it was something like 900.000 portuguese vs some 2.500.000 chinese. Thankfully, the chinese had no decent artillery.

What makes a real American? A cowboy hat? Enjoying a fine T-bone
steak? Going to a baseball game? Shooting a gun? Maybe it’s the freedom to go
into a poor country and tell them how to do things?! Heh! Those are all great
qualities! But one thing that makes a true patriot is the ability to choose
an American car! When you buy an import you take a hot meal off a hard
working American’s table. There, there! This poor girl is going
to starve to death, just because you bought a cheaper, more efficient
Maibazu. Without gross symbols of excess, what will Americans have to look up
to? Our great industries is a threaten! Cars, pornography, armaments! And
they need your help! So the next time you buy a car, a piece of adult
literature or a missile defense system! Make sure you do the American thing!

Victoria 2. As the Ottomans, fighting against the Russians in the Caucasus. It was first a small battle, around 10k men of my own versus 18k Russians. I started to lose, and they were sending reinforcements all over, so I did the same. Thousands of troops were pouring in to the Caucasus. Now, they did not want to lose either, so they sent more and more men. Eventually, I had 100k men in that small Caucasus region and they had 180k, and we were both sending more men as the battle advanced. Each side lost about a thousand men each day, but each day about a thousand men on average popped up to reinforce each side. The battle lasted several long months, and in the end I've lost - although they had at least twice as many casualties as I did. After winning the battle, what remained of my force retreated back to my territory, while the Russians split their forces and started occupying my provinces with each force. After my entire army retreated wholly and safely to my land, I waited for the turn of the month for them to recover, and then sent them after each Russian force. I won the war, eventually.

I've used that strategy many times, works nicely. The Caucasus is the perfect front to defend from, thing that sucks though is that when I'm playing as the Ottomans I usually have Persia sphered so the Russians go for Persia instead.
