download edition and patch

so, is it possible to patch the game if you bought a download copy? I tried to patch it to 1.5 and it says that localized.pack is not found, then I just continue, but when I tried to start up the Britannia campaign it says that I need to insert the CD. So whats the problem?

I think the OP don't use Steam, because if that was the case you won't need to insert a CD/DVD disc when you want to play the game except for an installation.

There are other vendors out there. D2D for example. Amazon is another. But so far as I know these all should come fully upgraded.

It comes down to this - don't apply patches to legal downloads. If you have a question about the patch version you're using check the upper corner of the Options menu off of the Main menu - that should tell you which patch you're installed to. Good luck!

If you downloaded it from Amazon, there's a 1.5 patch built only for the Amazon direct download copy.

I have gold edition with kingdoms version 1.03, a few months ago I updated it to 1.05 and it works perfectly

Kingdoms starts at patch version 1.4. The 1.5 patch fixed a number of scripting issues with the game and tied up loose ends here and there. M2 patches to 1.3 final.

I said this mostly to point out that download versions of the game are different in that when installed the patches should be automatically installed. But reading above did remind me that the Amazon Gold install has a separate issue that needs a special 1.5 patch from SEGA. I haven't run across any other vendor specific patches other than a special patch for the German version of Gold - a legal crack is needed for Kingdoms IIRC.

oh yes my mistake, sorry, I had 1.04 in the beggining, not 1.03 and I updated it to 1.05 (the final version)

Read the sticky here on top of the forum, it tells you everything about patches. They apply on retail versions not digital.

That a real problem. I haven't been able to get into SEGA for months now and that was the only place I could ever find the Amazon patch. A rather extensive search yielded nothing. I've even tried emailing SEGA but am getting nothing more than returned messages. It seems SEGA is slowly imploding.

Try contacting Amazon and see if you can get the patch through them. I couldn't find any support on their website....

Steam and Direct2Drive are responsible for their patches so I would say the same for Amazon.

Contact them.

The problem with the Amazon Gold version is that the .exe is bad. The download seems to be a semi-cracked .exe either from CA or one made with CA's approval. The only place I could find it was on the N America SEGA site and nowhere else. I don't think that patch from Gamershell is going to work.

I haven't heard squat from SEGA about their knowledge base being down yet.
