Thread: Enlarging map question

    Default Enlarging map question

I am trying to increase the size of the Mundus Magnus map (about 1.5 times the original), and have been partially successful. My steps are outlined as follows using PS9 CS2:

    1. map_regions - image resized to 1.5 x original
    2. fixed the cities to one pixel RGB (0 0 0)
    3. removed ports from map_regions and descr_strat
    4. resized climates, ground types, roughness according to guide
    5. using blanks/empty features and trade routes, with correct sizes
    6. resized the radar maps
    7. did not chnage the water surface tga
    8. used the heights converter

I load up the game, and all goes well into the faction selection screen. After selecting a random faction, the screen transitions as usual. Thprogress bar keeps loading until it reaches maybe 55-60% before CTD.

What do you think could cause this problem? Also, when enlarging the map, whattype of errors should one expect?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Why don't you add the -show_err after "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" so like this.

    Code:
    "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -show_err
It'll tell you what error you have when the game closes.

It is already in the shortcut. Thanx!

CTD is a direct crash without a message.

You have either made a mistake with the images you created, or you have an invalid land to sea mass ratio - or too large a portion of sea tiles. there are so many possible reasons for CTD in maps that you will not get an answer with so few details - you need to just keep experimenting yourself

    Couple of things:
    - when you resize maps, make sure you use "nearest neighbour" resampling
    - AFAIK, 1021 pixels to a side is the maximum dimension for the height and groundtype maps, 510 for the regions, features and trade route map.
    - I assume you also changed map coordinates for characters and resources in the strat file

btw, the type of error you get is one I'd think is related to map size or land mass.

Posted on scriptorium to try deleting your new radar maps, I changed mine and got CTD about 2/3rd to 3/4 way down loading bar - game will load without them. NB: also delete your map.rwm if you've got one now.

Re: comments above, 90% sure its not landmass ratio, have been experimenting with that to fine tune amount of sea we can get and CTD when sea is too large always occurs out from faction selection screen (you don't get to loading bar).
Having invalid map coordinates usually gives you Kick back to menu, not CTD and should give error message.
