Yes that was by Xenophanes I remember a University prof told me about the quote in change my vu on religion.

doesnt make much sense when you consider people like the ancient Eygptians.

Vengeance, mercy, forgiveness? Yes, those are. And think of representations of God; a Zeus. Yup, anthropomorphisation.

Animals experience basic emotions like fear, happiness and anger. Would it not be logical that progression of intellegence directly results in progression of emotion as well. I think god's emotions would surpass humans.

But we aren't even told he feels an overwhelming something. And description of emotion is possible; if vengeance is a more specialised anger, we describe desire for vengeance and vengeance in terms of anger.

Then if you didnt know vengeance it would simply be anger to you. Maybe god's love is something else, I mean it really is uncomparible to any other kind of love, however to us the only way to describe it is to use the definitions of love.
