Thread: Pack File Manager 2.4.1 - Compatability Features added

  1. #121

Default Re: Pack File Manager 2.0

    SSWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTT!!!

Now the columns are wider by default!

    Great work daniu!

    First bug report though:

I was just coming here to report I couldnt import .tsv files properly with the cdir_unit_qualities_tables. It would throw an error in 1.7.10, however in 2.0 there's no error. But it does not appear to work either.

If I import another .tsv it seems to work but the new content is not added.

Likewise I noticed if I delete ALL rows in that file and save, it just restores to its previous state as if nothing happened.

Hmm, yeah, I cannot use 2.0 at all. You can't save any changes. When you save a .pack file any changes made just disappears as if it reverts to it's default state.

Directly editing cells/rows already present seem to work, but if I clone a row, edit the ID to make the row unique and save it simply disappears.

Okay, I could reproduce most of the things you're saying. Also, the "Don't save CA files" option is broken, best to just disable it.
I'll have to call it a day now though, I'll have time to work on this tomorrow again.
Keep trying to work with it and collect as many issues as you can so I can all fix them in one go; the first things you come up with will most probably also be the most relevant ones.
Hadn't even thought about trying TSV import.

Thanks, very much appreciated ... I've been wanting to acces the boot pack for a while now.

    - added "add empty directory" feature
    - added "add files from TSV" feature
    - fixed row deletion not registering as change
    - fixed TSV import in DB editor

    This was a mess.
The fixes itself weren't much of a big deal, but I got completely lost on version management, cost me hours

Yes, I messed up TSV altogether.
Funnily enough, trying to fix that, I discovered it never worked properly in the first place...
I did try to make up for it with including a direct "add db file from TSV", you'll have to select the correct table directory to insert it into though.

Could you try again with your stuff? I have limited resources to test on.

    That should work now.

There are some entries I can't make sense of yet, I hope saving new boot.packs won't crash the game.
Let me know if it does.

adding DB directories doesn't seem to work at all
I'll be holding onto the older version until this gets all fixed

So far I love the new features only if it worked

It's not as straightforward as I'd like it to be yet, but it works for me.
    Try this:
    - open an existing pack
    - extract a db file to a directory, say _kv_rules
    - create a new pack file
    - create empty directory "db"
    - below that, create empty directory "_kv_rules_tables" (the directory name decides the type of the db files in it)
    - do "add file" and choose the one you exported earlier.

If you select it, it should open.

I attempted minor changes to the boot, but it didn't save the changes in any of the ways that were attempted.

You were probably trying to edit one of the text files.
The text editor isn't a real editor, it's read-only for some reason. I'll fix that in the next release.
If you export and re-import the file, it should work.

    Great news:
Lord Maximus has joined PFM development again
I won't release the next version until next week though, the last days have been a tad too hectic for my taste.

    Looks like a great tool!
I can't edit any pack files, though.
I get an "Unhandled exception has occured" whenever I try to save a pack file I have edited.

What kind of exception? Can you put up a screenshot of the error message?
Can you save files under a different name?

    Sure, here you go:

I get the same error when trying to save under a new name.
And I also get the error when saving without having changed anything.

    Here's the error details:

I have not worked with 2.0 yet as I've been busy with other things.

But for those who is having problems with 2.0 you can use the last stable; 1.7.10, download here:

I originally wanted to wait a bit longer with the next update but that's a pretty big bug

So here's version 2.0.2 (changes marked with (LM) have been included by Lord Maximus):
    - exception on save pack fixed
    - TSV import/export improved
    - text files can now be edited with the integrated text editor
    - copy/paste of text between table cells and from other text clipboard sources (LM)
    - files can now be extracted by drag/drop to explorer (LM)

I've created a list of features we could implement on sourceforge, take a look here.
Wishes to prioritize certain ones welcome (some are more work than others though obviously so may still take longer ).

With Lord Maximus and me working together now, this is growing more into a professional software product than a community-based effort
    Here's what's on our agenda:
    - I'm working on internals mostly; this should make the inclusion of new file formats easier. I'm especially thinking of integrated ESF editing.
    - I'm adding the shader.pack files to the supported packs; don't know if anybody can make use of them, but they were mostly the same format as the boot.pack.
    - LM is expanding the drag&drop feature he started to support export of folders and import.
    - He also started redesigning the user interface to an MDI approach (multiple document interface).

What the last item means is that you will ultimately have one window with the pack file tree in it, and the files you edit are opened in an individual, new window.
This might take a bit of getting used to, but the advantage is that you will be able to open several files in the pack at once; so for instance you can have the units table right next to the projectiles one from within the same PFM instance.

Default Re: Pack File Manager 2.0.2

Started working with 2.0.2 and immediately I feel annoyed by the fact that PFM no longer automatically detects what folder (table) a file belongs to.

Adding the file cdir_events_mission_option_junctions file to my .pack means I have to first add an empty directory (the add directory function does not appear to work), copy paste the name cdir_events_mission_option_junctions_tables, and then add the file cdir_events_mission_option_junctions to that directory. I much prefer the way 1.7.10 handled it. What's the benefit of doing it this (the new) way?

I'll keep editing this post when I find bugs/problems for 2.0.2:

    • When exporting TSV the save file type as option is blank.
    • When importing TSV and selecting File Type as TSV it does not show files with .tsv extension.
    • The new copy/paste feature is great but does not work 100%. 1.) When pasting inside a cell the cell text string does not update before after you "exit" the cell. 2.) I can't seem to copy/paste cells that only contains numbers.
