I suggest you to play the mod on v1.011 if you want to avoid bugs/crashes.
Preferably, use the enhanced version of M&B 1.011 (more stable, with many fixes). You can get enhanced version from Taleworlds official site using this link:

The enhanced version really helps I think. Haven't had a single crash playing as Dale, not even in larger battles. Just a few temporary freezes or slowdowns.

How are the different factions? I'm Rivendell but my army is a mishmash of the different elf faction volunteers and about 10 dwarves. I've been pumping most of my points into charisma and my army capacity is 49 now. Right now I'm on a mission from Elrond patrolling around Isengard's outposts and killing their war parties. Elven archers are pretty awesome. I've only fought one army bigger than 60 so far though.

What the devs made with Rhun? They look like 'barbarians' (wait, they're supposed to be barbarians) and mongols, i demand gold looking armors! (damn lore). At least Khand is cool.

Me too. I didn't experience any ctd's so far in the couple of hours that I played. Only problem so far are the forest-battles = complete lagfest.

I have read it's dependent on your level (eightish) and not the days.

Here are some screenshots of me visiting Minas Tirith the first time. It's really beautiful:
    Camp-map

    Minas Tirith, City of Kings

Perhaps you've come to tell me why my son is dead

The White Tree of Gondor, the tree of the King

    That's pretty deep

falls from the edge of Minas Tirith ...

And off we go to kill some Uruk Hai

They really put their heart into this- The settlements are huge- compared to those in vanilla....
Without a horse at first, I just explored the smaller settlements.
And those are already impressive- complete overhaul.

funny, when I play TATW, i wish i could teleport down there and be the lazy captain that gives the orders from behind the ranks without having to get a drop of mud on my clothes, but still gets all the credit when the job itīs done. then i would boldly ride back to my castle to tap some nice elvish tail.

You can do so as well, in TLD.
Set up a line of troops- sit back- PROFIT!
But first you will have to fight for your 'first' line of troops that can hold on.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Once your character reach level 8 you will get this message and a cutscene (first time I had the cutscene, it resulted in a ctd, so save your game before you level up! ):

There is no need to save before levelling up- if you don't care about the cutscene.
You can just ESC right on this screen- and save.
    CTD>load>PROFIT!
But the cutscene will not play again, sadly.

The first time, I actually did have a recent save before the crash.
The second time I just use the 'skip' method as mentioned
