Default The Last Days of The Third Age of Middle-Earth (M&B mod)

I'm usually not one to post anything non-TATW related but I felt this deserved a spot

A few months ago I recall a topic asking about a first/third person LoTR RPG game. And the only one I think that was mentioned was LoTRO... Well, someone brought this mod up. But everyone thought it was dead... Because the lead dev quit. Well guess what? It just got a new release 5 days ago. (10-31-2011)

And for those interested can check it out here (this is for version 1.011 of the game Mount and Blade WHICH IS NOT FREE the mod is free, NOT the game itself): http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-last-days

The reason I posted this is because I know there is a large LoTR community here and some at least might be interested to know about this (I was )

For my 2 cents, it's an outstanding mod. Of very high-quality. It certainly offers a large array of choices absent in many LoTR games such as a choice to pick from: Beornings to Dwarves - from Gondorians to Eastlerlings - from Mordor Uruks to Isengard Uruk-Hai - From Elves to Dunedain. And for those Tolkien enthusiasts out there it's based solely on the books. (e.g. Gondorians do not wear plate armor, etc.)

As I stated before, I'm not one to spam, but I posted this as I knew it had come up before and felt it deserved a post, if a moderator finds it un-fitting please lock/delete it

EDIT: The devs recommend using THIS version of M&B 1.011. It's basically 1.012 but it's called 1.011 Enhanced. NOTE: Requires a VALID CD-LEY to activate. You can download the whole game for free, but it's just a trial. YOU WILL NEED A VALID CD-KEY to activate. http://www.moddb.com/games/mount-bla...hanced-version

It's recommended that you use the extended version of Mount and Blade for stability. I had the other version but downloaded the new here http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.p...,199418.0.html.

My god... Incredible. NOW I can stand to wait for TATW 3.0 a bit longer.

Did you guys have any problem installing the mod? I read that it was difficult and that you needed to overwrite some of the M&B files so you couldn't play vanilla. Is that true?

If not then this will get installed this weekend!

I have already downloaded the mod a couple of days ago, now I only have to make sure I have the right version of M&B installed on my comp. Usually it should be the other way around.

No it should be pretty simple:
Way 1: use IronLaucher. To run the game, execute IronLauncher.exe, which is located in mod folder. IronLauncher is a small program (by Switer) which will swap all the necessary M&B files with versions suitable for TLD, play TLD intro, then launch the game itself. On exit it will swap all the files back, so that you can play other mods.
We tried to provide a coherently configured launcher, but if you have any problems launching the game this way then try the other way.

    Dont forget to:
-move every .brf files from the last days data folder to the texture folder in the Mount Blade main folder.
-move every .txt and .xml files from the last days data folder to the data folder in the mount blade folder.
    (folders, folders...)

Not if you use IronLauncher as mentioned.

I too can recommend this mod, it is one of the best mods I have ever tried and is a true masterwork.

    I'm already addicted

No you don't. The launcher moves them back and forth, that's the point of it (so you could run other mods beside TLD).

Manual copying is only in case the launcher doesn't work for you and it also allows you to run the mod via the vanilla exe (don't forget to select TLD in the drop-down menu).

If it's true, then it serve totally no purpose to use it then.
I copied the files, and launch with the main MnB.
Worked perfectly, aside from the 'intro'.

But well, the files are not supposed to all go inside the 'data' folder-which then the Launcher probably won't work then.

KnightsTemplar, you must play the game with the ironlauncher, if you have any doubts check the .pdf file in the last days module folder

Well, it crashed once- so now I stick with IL.
BTW, if anyone fears anything would happen, when the 'cutscene' kicks in(when the War of the Ring starts) you can either turn it off at the camp options
Or save when it's playing the Rohan part by pressing ESC.
When it crashed, it will be skipped (prevent more crash for yourself) when you load the save.

The devs decided against that. I've already played for about 6 hours+ and have only encountered 1 very small bug. It's rather bug-free. (true, they're there )

For people that find bugs if you have the time leave a post here to notify them of it in case they are not aware of the bug you found: http://mbx.streetofeyes.com/index.php/topic,2464.0.html
