Default Total War: Pacfic (WW2 era mod for shogun 2)

    The Year is 1945
The world is in a state of Total War.

    FACTIONS

    UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (USA)
The US is poised to take Mainland Japan, if their new weapon cannot be delivered on time, The Imperial Army and Navy prepare to defend to the last man.
The Fate of America no longer hangs in the Balance as it did in 1941, however the Japanese must be stopped at all costs, if not mainland United states could be in the Firing line.

    THE BRITISH COMMONWEALTH (ANZAC)
the British Commonwealth, battered from the Darwin Bombings and The Invasion of Hong Kong, still fights despite receiving limited help from Britain herself fresh ANZAC troops from Australia and New Zealand can be pushed into any Allied Offensive.

    EMPIRE OF JAPAN (IJ)
With the Empire being pushed back, a new strategy must be put in place, with the Americans pushing in at the Philippines and onto Japan herself something must be done. There is no time for failure, the rising sun is setting fast. The Allies forces must be annihilated- then with their nations defenseless, Japan can reign supreme over the Pacific.

    SOVIET UNION (USSR)
The Soviet Union has interests in the Area, and may Invade Japan, if the US cannot do so within a year.
The Germans are about to be utterly destroyed in Europe- this freeing up the Red Army for Pacific ambitions with a presence in the far north keeping the Japanese out of Siberia, it could be easily mobilised. Imperialism could be uprooted and a Japanese Socialist Soviet could be forged.

    NAZI GERMANY (NAZI)
Nazi Germany battered but not beat in Europe, has a limited contingent in japan, however they could expand to bring the Reich much needed support in the Pacific,The Fuhrer betrayed the Russians- In time the Japanese could be "disposed" and the the Wehrmact could push towards moscow on a far eastern front, However with no resources from the Reich in Europe. A Pazifik Korps would be hard to make and would be drawn from locals, and vehicles would have to be built in Japan. Yet it could be done.

I'll admit... your eagerness is pretty damn commendable, but...

We just don't have the tools to make this an authentic mod. For now, maybe.

    Some points of consideration:
-Rename provinces and town-forts to 20th century names. This is just a text change; no problem there.
-Replacing vanilla factions. Using a completely new faction from scratch may very well be possible, but it's tedious. In the startpos.esf file, for example, there are so many things you would need to catch that makes a few faction horrible work. But, if you are to move ahead with such a project, I suggest you consider what I have been doing: clan-swapping. You already have data for a bunch of clans in the startpos.esf; use it and just change out the things that the player will see. You want the U.S. and ANZAC forces? Use Kyushu clans as clan-swapping subjects. THAT is the more feasible rout.
-Custom units/custom model skins. You are pretty much stuck with the meshes that are in the game files. You can tweak the numerous faces for the U.S./ANZAC forces to look a bit more pasty, but not a whole lot more. You would also be limited to the weaponry you have in the game. You can certainly be creative here, but most creativity would mean a sharp curve from historical information; monks in the American armies .
-Loading screens, graphics, unit cards. You can replace this sort of thing without much of a problem.
    -Thematic music. Sure!
-Banners. Unless I'm mistaken, I'm inclined to believe banner sizes are hard-coded, meaning it won't be touched any time soon. This means that while you can put some sort of historically-derived banner, it's length would be much smaller than its height. Not exactly historical for 20th century western heraldry, but hell.. it's doable.

If you do this mod right now, chances are it won't live up to you and many others' expectations. If, after those points, you are still determined, then I wish you good luck. It may not be what everyone wants, but to certain extents it's completely possible.

I was aware of the challenge, but yeah I'm going ahead with it this is my first foray into TW modding having made minor mods for a few other games, I feel its time to do something big

I already started with the esf file
With the clans renamed and cities with 20th century names, and generals with appropriate names when its finished I'll put up a download link to the esf soon

This is what I had in mind to create so far

For a Base trooper model, a re texture of Matchlock Ashigaru or the seems to what is feesable, adding accessories such ANZAC hats or Trooper helmets would be the hard part

For the Japanese, Soviet and Nazi conscripts a simple retexture of the flintlock monks will be done

I had some success with the Fire Rocket unit to form the Katyusha rocket launcher, however getting a truck to put them on remains to be seen
at the least I have an Immobile Artillery platform

Thanks for the Info on the Banners, I'll take that into consideration
As for the Banners, the Japanese used traditional style banners, so it does not take a leap of faith to say other forces might have used them mockingly
Vertically placed flags sideways for the allies seem to be what

U would have the british, USSR and even Nazis but no Chinese?? Seriously WTF???

all the british did was retreat from their far east colonies one by one (not talking about ANZAC)
and the Soviets were only limited in Manchuria during the final stages of the war for like a few weeks
and hell u would even add those Nazis???

China had been fighting for eight years, longer than any other country at war, yet u wouldn't even mention
her name?? WTH is wrong with u??

Not impossible. In many respects, as I have pointed out above, quite simple. There will be limitations, however, like no historical uniforms unless he can pull it off with the current meshes.

If anyone would be willing to create some preliminary music files?, I want to go with period music so I would request the following

American Patrol by Glenn Miller ( a favorite amongst ANZAC and US troops )

Stars and Stripes forever ( US Military March)

Ride of the Valkaries by Richard Wagner (one Hitlers favorites and associated with Nazi's - because its such good music to invade poland to )

Katyusha (a Russian folk song ,sung by russian troops)

Lets go! ( make sure its a Russian version, as this was later the Anthem of East Germany)

Horst Wessel Lied (The anthem of the Wehrmacht and Waffen SS )

    Kimigayo (IJN Marching Song)

    Warship March (IJN Marching song)

Doki no sakura (IJA Marching song)

Full credit for in the Readme and other applicable places

You would definitely wan't to make some sort of machine guns if possible because alot of the fighting later in the war was against defencive positions. Also the units would definitely need to have each soldier spread out and be very small, about 10 or 20 men for each unit. Also there was many types of artillery used like the Americans would use 105 mm howitzers, 75 mm pack howitzers. The Japanese used a range of different artillery like the Type 89 15 cm Cannon, the Type 96 15 cm Howitzer, there are many others but those were common. The Japanese had hand mortars aswell wich could be a unit using the Hojo hand mortars, they used the type 10 hand mortar and the type 89 hand mortar. They also used rocket artillery later in the war and heavy mortars like the type 98 32 cm spigot mortar.

You can do a lot of stuff similar to The Great War for NTW - they have mgs, tanks, everything, except its for WW1.

I think you have definitely done your research and the unit info are nicely done.

But I have a question as to why use Shogun? There is other games that might be much easier to mod with already a WWII theme and models probably. Like Company of Heroes.

Maybe you are trying to use the Total war style of campaign play & RTS battle?

If you want to incorporate the navy I think you might make it too complicated with aircraft carrier and all.

if you pull this off..you can sell it as a DLC....

The closest he will get to machine guns is just increasing the reload time to a crazy extent. Maybe the cannon meshes could be made use of for them, although they'd look like bloody weird MGs. Definitely not historical.

The teppo weapons could possibly be re-textured using pre-existing meshes to look much more like 20th century weaponry. The gunshot sounds can be changed to enforce this change.

Not true for S2. No tanks.

MGs... yes, however they would be ahistorical and the mod as a whole would not really reflect the period. But... as I noted before, it's possible to some extent.

The closest he would get to 20th century navies is the Nanban Trade Ship and the Black Ship. A lacking of woe to the hand that sheds some very creative re-texturing .

All of this would may be much more workable in about a year or so. Maybe, just maybe, someone will create additional tools. But... I wouldn't assume it.

    Interesting mod idea.

Though, with your unit line up, I'm assuming you don't realize that the Germans only managed to manufacture two Maus superheavy tanks, and they never left the factory before the Soviets destroyed one and captured the other.

And although they didn't have as large a naval presence in the Pacific theatre as the US did, the British navy did sport armoured aircraft carrier decks - which unlike their wooden decked American counterparts were less likely to be destroyed by aerial and kamikaze attacks.

I am quite aware of that fact
As this is a What-if scenario if the Manhattan as the US Did not Invade Mainland Japan, this is a assuming the Nazi's keept fighting well into 45 and the Maus plans got to the Nazi Embassy in Tokyo thus began safe production in Japan

UPDATE: With the news of the "Fall of the Samurai" Expansion Pack and many of its usable meshes this mod will probably be ready for release in mid April 2012
    For "Fall of the Samurai"

If you have not seen the pictures and the trailers go see them you will see how fortuitous this is for the Mod!

But what I really Wish to say is why not tring to make it abit Fantasy, as in Idontknow, WWI Japs is fighting off a invasion from the Commenwealth and the americans, with the russian at the border and shiet.

Its all most easy to make up stuff, But yeah I sounds like a good idea.
