Thread: Celts in Egypt?

  1. #1

    Default Celts in Egypt?

Why can I recruit Celtic warriors in Alexandria? Did they like to travel there?
Moreover, the brigands frequently pop up are mostly Celtic.
I wonder what did they do in Egypt?

This was because the Ptolemies imported so many Galatians to serve as mercenaries in thier armies.

    They were given land.

Hmmm. Maybe. Served well as mercenaries then were given some lands.
But it seems only Alexandria can recruit them. Other cities, even in Minor Asia, can't.

Celtic troops are available in Asia Minor as mercenaries. Tectosages Swordsmen, Tolistoboii Cavalry, Trocmi Chariots, Fanatics, etc. can be recruited around Galatia. If you want to recruit them in your cities you'll have to build Mercenary Buildings.

There is archaeological evidence that Celts fought for the Ptolemies, lived in areas that were alloted to them, even worshiped Egyptian\Greek gods....this from tomb inscriptions found.
The Celts were quite widespread in the Middle East. Although some settled in Galatia, many others hired themselves out as mercs clear down into Egypt.

Well, seem reasonable. But there're too many spawned Celtic brigands along the Nile.
