    A second Patch is done!

    Again a new patch wich adresses some more minor issues from the mod and improving it further.
    I hope all those who reported bugs/issues find that fixed. If not, I might just not have the time yet.
    But it can't hurt to remind me.
    Below you find some of the changelog. The mod should by now play more refined and have still the old fun.
    Please test if you find errors. It would also be nice if some of you would like to take over some parts like starttechs of nations.
    I'm just one person doing this. So you help me much with just pointing out to things you might find noteable.
    Please help and add a note here in the forum about what you would like to do, so we don't have unnecessary double work.

    If you report things, please also give me infos below, so I can track things easier.
    Check your Checksum(You can find it at the main game screen)!

    You must maybe be registerted here to see the download-link.
    Clicking on the wrench should lead you to the download..
    You only need this patch is fouy habe already the AHOI-Mod.
    Otherwise download/install the AHOI-Mod first! Infos are given further below or in the OP.



    Installation:
    The mod/patch uses the Mod-Dir.
    The patch is cumulative, so you don't need the previous patch. Just the basic mod for TFH.
    Then you need to download the AHOI-Mod Treasure Chest 4.02a first if you haven't done already.

    Browse to your HoI3 folder and delete the content of the following folder:
    C:\Users\"username"\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron III\AHOIModTreasure\map\cache
    And:
    X:\Hearts of Iron III\tfh\mod\AHOIModTreasure\history\provinces
    All files within.. (The game will later build up the map from scratch on the first launch.)
    So just unpack the patch on the dektop. There you have now a folder called "Patch-AHOI-Mod-TFH-402c".
    Within this folder is another folder AHOIModTreasure and the file AHOIModTreasure.mod.
    Copy these now into this location: X:\Hearts of Iron III\tfh\mod\.
    There you can find already the same files/folder names, overwrite when asked.

    Important! If you extract the patch directly into the mod subfolder, you get a different checksum! Don't ask me why..

    Start the game with the launcher, it should show 4.02c on the left, enable that and start the game.
    It will build now the map wich could take a while.
    After the game loaded up the first time, close the game and restart it again.
    That is neccessary for the engine to set it up allright.(Checksum etc..)
    Beause of the Mod-Dir, all the savegames, logs and map files of the Mod can be found in your users folder here:
    C:\Users\"Your username"\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron III\AHOIModTreasure.


    STEAM-Installation:
    Locate your STEAM-HoI3 installation directory.
    Like: C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Hearts of Iron III
    If you don't know where it is do a seach for steam.exe

    Now just do the same as described above for normal users too, Just delete the same files first and then copy in the folder below.
    C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Hearts of Iron III\tfh\mod

    STEAM start the Mod:
    Now you can start the Mod with the launcher.exe in the folder C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Hearts of Iron III\.
    Pick AHOI-Mod on the lower left and start with the start button on the lower right.

    The first startup can take a while beacuse of all the map changes. After the game started the first time, just quit and restart.

    To have an easier start later on, you could also right click on the launcher.exe and choose " create shortcut" from the menue that pops up.
    Now you can copy that just created shortcut to the Desktop and don't have to move down the whole path to the launcher every time you want to use it.

    Savegames:
    Beause of the new Mod-Dir, all the savegames, logs and map files of the Mod can be found in your users folder here:
    C:\Users\"Your username"\My Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron III\AHOIModTreasure

    Folders: logs/map/music/savegames/Screenshots
    Files: settings.txt/messagetypes_custom.txt(You can have different screen resolutions with different mods.)

    -Changed loading screens again, other cool pics..
    -Added description(tooltips) for new buildings

    -Fixed some typos and oddities with some technologies wich were reported
    -Added some bonuses for techs that were only prerequisite and had only malus so far.
    So with some produktion techs you get now boni and also can reduce the build cost/build time of units. So no longer 4 years builds for modern ships, but 2 years are possible now with the right techs.
    -Added ship gfx for naval combat view.(MTB, all carriers, PocketBB)
    -Added gfx for new buildings in production view
    -Fixed percentage values for max amount of units being buildable.(Paradox bugged it, so that needed a workaround..)
    -CGM-Mode should work now with all countries.
    -Switched gfx for pause/speed up/speed down, so that is usabel as before again.
    -Added first changes for Models and pics of those(Still very generic..)
    -Changed slightly the dynamic ai decsions
    -Production ai slightly changed to have more land units build earlier, and have a better building for minors.
    (Overall less ships will be build.)
    -Changed sunk ship list font colour to white again.
    -Changed some dmg modifier for air combat critical hits(nerfed it ab it)
    -Raised new leader org hit and some more little tweaks here and there..
    -Some more I didn't wrote up..


    Patchlog for 4.02b:

    -I hope I patched all reported bugs.
    -Counters changed to have no more borders around them.
    -The new feature of TFH of Penetration/Armour are implemented.
    -The new feature of TFH of Tactics is implemented(Doctrines)
    -Some technology errors solved.
    -Some technology balancing.
    -Technologies like WW1 planes are now integrated. (WWI Scenario will be added some later..)
    -Changed productions Lua.
    -New buildings are finally in:
    If you build a port or airport, you get a naval base/air base for free every two steps via decsions you can take.
    Military buldings can be build faster then the civil part, but military bases are needed for rapair/refuel, civil buildings add IC/Infra.
    Railroad networks are added. A railline is easier to be bombed/dmg in fights but allows more supply.
    Heavy Industries will later be tied to production capabilities of tanks in the same way as ports/airports needed for air/sea units.
    -CGM-Mode should work now with all countries.
    -Some more I didn't wrote up..

    Icon7 AHOI-Mod - AAR

    So, as EvW was cancelled, I work again on my own Mod..
    I finally started an AAR to see where I can improve it next and finally play the Mod myself again, I thought it might be nice to write about it in an AAR to show how this Mod could be played and explain some of its features.
    I'll play with Germany and focus on an overall build up of all forces(Army/Navy/Air Force) and of course try to defeat the allies and aid my possible axis partners wich will be hopefully the historical ones. Maybe we can do some fun invasions in South America too..

    Icon7 Next patch(4.4) coming



    I'm working on the next patch(4.4).
    Intermediate version of 4.3 was up for half a year now and quite some bugs fixed by now.
    Also the mud season is implemented and seems to work fine for over 2k downloads. No bad feedback on that, but praise how hard it is now in Russia in such seasons, like historically.

    So, again, this is a good time to remind me on things you want to change/included.
    It would be nice if you can help me with the descriptions and techs for the tech-tree. Maybe you can just take a branch you like. Thats not hard work but much if I do that all alone.

    I have three questions:
    1) Do you plan on adding unique images to the urban regions instead of the default ones?
    2) Do you have plans to add more strategic victory conditions?
    3) Do you have a plan to add more strategic/unique resources? For instance, I've noticed that in Vanilla most of the strategic/unique resources are located in the West (N. American and Europe) while Asia (China, Korea, Japan, etc) have very few strategic/unique resources.

    Hi Rohi.
    Really looking forward to the next version.

    For now, I'll give you a short answer to your questions:

    1.
    I had, but they're at the end of my to do list for now. I like to do some map changes before I change the prov pics.


    2.
    I have plans to completely redo the whole system. Some of the old ones are just redundant.
    Do you have something in mind you would like to see?


    3.
    Also here, a complete rework seems needed. I wanted to wait for all the new buildings being in place first.
    We have not that much boni for them(strat ress), so we need maybe to work around with some trigger conditions.
    Like if we have a strat ressource, we get a certain modifier, if we have two of them, we get a bigger one.
    That way we could add more different ones or even have others stack up. Like having bigger dock capacity or "tankograds" help in production much more as having that strat ressource just once.
    Problem here is, that strat ress are being shared within you faction.. So we'll look how we can get the best out of that feature.

    Thank you for your reply Chromos!

    I have been playing as Japan in my recent test with your mod and I've noticed that besides the unique resources of horses and aluminium in China, there's very little incentive to for Japan to invade China.

    Historically, while China was underdeveloped, there were plenty of resources in China - especially coal (energy). However the Vanilla game does not show this situation. Instead China is poor - so why would a Japan player want to invade China if there is no reward for conquering China...?

    Therefore, in response to your comment for Q.2, maybe there can be an event or strategic victory conditions for the player who controls northern China (Shanxi region)? The player who controls this region should receive a bonus with energy.

    Also, there are other areas of the map which can use more strategic victory conditions otherwise the player has no purpose fighting in the majority of the empty map.

    One other such example is Africa. Other than the Suez, Vanilla Italy has little to gain with fighting in Africa. Perhaps there can be another incentive here to encourage Italy to dedicate fight in Africa..?

    What do you think...?

    That are good ideas.
    I initially wanted to add more standard ressources to the more important cities/areas instead of strat ress.
    However if there was some serious ressource that shoud be represented with strat ressource, we could add that too.

    In regard to your ide about Q2, wouldn't that already happening if that area is part of a puppet (as it was intended to be)? As then the puppet sends most of its ressources to its master anyway.

    I'm looking forward what other places you have in mind for more VC, I find the current boni given by them rather bad, as they only add Leaderships etc..
    But I haven't looked into it for a long time, so I don't know atm how we could improve that. Maybe with events that check for holding such key-provinces?
    E. g. holding Suez already gives you a great strategical bonus in strategical movement/trade routes. Maybe an money income for having control of it would fit better as a bonus to reflect the tax others (neutrals/non enemies) have to pay for usage?

    What if, instead of giving a bonus to a particular nation, there are penalties for other nations?
    For instance:
    If Country A holds the Suez Canal, then any country at war with Country A will receive a penalty in - I don't know - money, oil, etc...?
    I'm not sure if this is possible, however this concept can be very useful for Italy. As it stands right now, there is very little to do with Italy other than capture North Africa, Suez, and the Middle East. However even when doing so there are very little strategic rewards - when, in reality, if Italy had captured the Suez Canal then Great Britain's supply lines to the East would have been severely damaged!

    Therefore, having strategic victories which give penalties to enemies can make holding particular regions very important.

    Here's another option: losing particular regions can result in a morale loss. Using Italy as another example: if Italy loses North Africa, then it will suffer a severe penalty overall for morale of soldiers. This will require the Italian player to try harder to defend North Africa.
    Also, if Italy captures Malta - then the British will suffer a morale penalty, while the Italians will gain a morale bonus! The same can apply for Leningrad and Stalingrad: if Germany captures these cities then Germany's soldiers will receive a morale bonus, while the Soviet Union's soldiers will suffer a morale loss.

    What do you think of this...? Is this possible...?

    Also, I find that with most of the Hearts of Iron games (I've played the series for about 10 years now), the war is mainly restricted to the European theater and North Africa - leaving the rest of the world rather useless. However this is not necessarily the case.
    For instance, Japan relied on the coal (energy in HoI) northern China, northern Korea, and Manchukuo. Here is an example from Wikipedia:

    After the Japanese invasion of Manchuria in 1931, Japanese militarists moved forward to separate the region from Chinese control and to create a Japanese-aligned puppet state. To create an air of legitimacy, the last Emperor of China, Puyi, was invited to come with his followers and act as the head of state for Manchuria. One of his faithful companions was Zheng Xiaoxu, a Qing reformist and loyalist.[22]

    On 18 February 1932 the Manchu State (Manchukuo, Pinyin: Mǎnzhōuguó)[23] was proclaimed and recognized by Japan on 15 September 1932 through the Japan-Manchukuo Protocol. The city of Changchun, renamed Hsinking (Pinyin: Xinjing) (新京, literally "New Capital"), became the capital of the new entity. Chinese in Manchuria organized volunteer armies to oppose the Japanese and the new state required a war lasting several years to pacify the country.

    The Japanese initially installed Puyi as Head of State in 1932, and two years later he was declared Emperor of Manchukuo with the era name of Kangde ("Tranquility and Virtue"; Wade-Giles: Kangte). Manchukuo thus became the Great Manchurian Empire, sometimes termed Manchutikuo (Pinyin: Mǎnzhōu Dìguó). Zheng Xiaoxu served as Manchukuo's first prime minister until 1935, when Zhang Jinghui succeeded him. Puyi was nothing more than a figurehead and real authority rested in the hands of the Japanese military officials. An imperial palace was specially built for the emperor. The Manchu ministers all served as front-men for their Japanese vice-ministers, who made all decisions.

    In this manner, Japan formally detached Manchukuo from China in the course of the 1930s. With Japanese investment and rich natural resources, the area became an industrial powerhouse. Manchukuo had its own issued bank notes and postal stamps. Several independent banks were founded as well.

    In 1935, Manchukuo bought the Chinese Eastern Railway from the Soviet Union.
    I'm sharing this because I think the Chinese theater is neglected in most of the HoI games (and mods!), and maybe your mod Chromos can improve on the Asian theater...?

    Yes that spossible with events that check on who holds wich ground(provinces).
    That way, it is just "some" work to check all the time etc..
    Or using the current ingame effect for holding a certain region/prov (triggered_modifiers) and tie some event_modifiers to it.

    I recently tried to make the area even more interesting again. Before and in the version you have already, you have the flooding event already that slows JAP down if CHI blows up the dikes.
    But I tried again to redo the whole war there and play around making MAN appear different to have a better ai capabilities and also have more out of it for JAP.

    All over all I'm not quite sure what much I did since last official version of 4.02c.
    I was in a major overhaul as I had to stopp modding in October 2015 and now just wanted to share what I've done since.
    Lets have a look at what I remember:

    12,232 changed files
    Many of them only provinces wich got railroad switched with roads to trick the engine. Infra lvl wise nothing changed. trick didn't work so I need to do it the really hard way and implement anoter more work intense solution. But then we'll get also highways and maybe another type of railway that was only "planned" by Germany..
    All you need to know is, RR give actually the old Infra bonus from roads and vice versa!

    But also:
    -MAN should now declare war against NatCHI and Japan only fully joins in later.. I had also done quite some province changes, e.g. in China to help the ai do a more historic war over there. But it is not done/balanced yet.
    -OOB's were adjusted
    -Techs slightly adjusted
    -Added some of deltablues additions for unit modells.
    -Added some of deltablues techs pictures for some techs.
    -Added "Hjalfnars Marine update" for better historical ship start techs.
    -Added some own changes for FRA ships according to "Hjalfnars Marine update".
    -Tweaked unit upgrade paths
    -Changed some dependencies path drawings in Pz-Tech screen
    -Changed production limits of units to work some better.
    -Tweaked some techs stats(start date, gains).
    -Units give more practicals so you don't loose to much production experience anymore.
    -Unit counters got new wooden look
    -Changed loading screens again, other cool pics..
    -Changed some text for UI.
    -Tweaked some values in static_modifiers
    -Tweaked some values in strategic_resources
    -Tweaked some values in defines.lua
    -Added some events to help divide Yugoslavia between axis powers to prevent supply problems.
    -Added Rasputitia. You will have two times a year a severe problem with suppy in center russia because of the mud season.
    -Added Huang He flooding. As CHI flooded the Huang He river to slow down the JAP adavance, you and the ai can do that now too.
    -Added a new system on how to install the mod to have it easier for all of you to install the mod and being sure to have it done right.

    And propably much more..

    The Treasure Chest got some new bugfixes wich where reported so far. I'll also add some new tech descriptions and pics already done by Hjalfnar and some by myself. A new version with these changes is ready for dl.
    Check out the first post to get to the new version.

    The mod version is still the same, but the cheksum changed from E E C R to the new one: G K D A!

    News AHOI!


    After a long time some news around the Mod and other topics.
    The AHOI-Mod is still in 4.4b+ progress. There should have been an MP-AAR with some folks over at the german strategycon-interactive forum, but sadly that didn’t happend so far. I modded some further but didn’t documented all changes, and the wishlist is still long. In the meantime I’ve become a father for the second time and our life normalizes again, so that I had found time to look at the mod after a long time. And as for the current slow progress of HoI4 to be an real alternative to HoI3, it might be possible that I’ll do a version 4.5 of the AHOI-Mod.
    Also I was asked by Flamberg01 over at ModDB of the progress of the AHOI-Mod in the past, and I created a Dev-Group for the AHOI-Mod so that he could develop it further on his own and post the work there. But sadly I haven’t heard anything from him since then.
    Well, I’m at least are eager to test some more ideas. Because of that, I’ll need to write an external programm that will “communicate” with HoI3. When all will went well, I have -“with some less comfort”- changed some of the bad behaviours of HoI3 for the better and raise the fun of the game. Also the balancing of the game will be easier and the extension of the timeframe of the game much more likely. More on this after I’ve more results.






    Now on to another game called Terminal Conflict.
    Strategy Mill -one of the main devlopers behind the cancelled game Spiel East vs. West- is currently developing a new game set in the cold war time.
