I usually only used mods once the game is no longer supported officially (no more patches). I don't really use mods since ETW except few graphical changes like new loading screens etc for ETW.

Mod's change things. If you don't like what the game is like, you can mod in/out the problem (eg. RD, the speed of combat, etc.). Thats why people are getting frustrated with the inability to easily mod the warscape games. One factor that could be reducing the need for mods(other than a better vanilla game) is that there is a much greater focus on MP in later games, and you can only play online with people who have exactly the same version you do.

I think CA does a great job of pleasing the most amount of people with their vanilla products. That said, I use very minor mods; I extended the end date for Shogun and RoTS, added more load screens to keep my eyes occupied, and am going to try the mod that suppossedly increases FPS by 50%, though it sounds dubious. I think I've got AUM installed, but haven't played S2 in awhile, still enjoying RoTS. That's about it, and I could easily enjoy any TW title in vanilla.
If someone create loading screen mods picturing naked geishas I'll definitely will download it.

if you dont want big changes to your game, check out radious's mods in hosted modification section. he has a variety of mods with several versions of each and explanations of what they do. easy to use, just place into your data folder. if you dont like the mod just remove it from data folder. no messing around with scripts.
i use AUM and the blood mod and the morale mod the ashigaru routing right after combat is just kind ofyou know? but i tried darthmod and didnt really enjoy it to much archers are pretty much useless in darthmod only good thing about darthmod is it cuts down on the archer spam in AI armies
I haven`t used a mod yet since I want to see what`s working and what`s not. Use a Mod too soon and you can`t tell what`s changed.
A plea to CA: Please give us NON-STEAM OPTIONS such as with GOG.COM`s Alan Wake and Witcher 2, etc. Even allow a system such that Mount and Blade Uses. Many of us will pay extra for a Steam-free version of RTW2.
The use of STEAM-ONLY by CA is ethically wrong because:
1. It does not need to be forced. It could be optional as other games have proven.
2. It discriminates between internet users and non-users or those who simply do not want it.
3. The `advantages` are only advantages in a very small and superficial manner. They do not counter the disadvantages.
4. It suits the company way more than the user. We are simply told it`s better for us
Finally,I shall not give CA|SEGA my money for RTW2 while it forces Steam on me. They have given us no good reason why it must be so. Basically they don`t care.
A Steam Option would benefit ALL. Don`t fight us, JOIN us.
Games don`t need forced Steam
I don't really use mods except for my own little tweaks, which are just extending the campaign, adjusting realm divide and adding unit limits. Other then that I really just leave everything alone, especially in regards to the battle mechanics.
I only ever use the Radious diplomacy mod because I think it makes RD more realistic. Other than that I play on vanilla.

I bought the game yesterday and I just install Darth mod and Toon all in one.Maybe I should try the vanilla one ,but TW games means mods ,or should means.
There are very few games that I am happy to play modded, notably the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series (especially SoC, that game is just gash without them really).
They just feel way too, I suppose unprofessional would be the right word to use, nine times out of ten.
Then i will look hard for your mod about limiting units , i'm desperately looking for a mod that limits samurai units for both AI and player , without success so far
To answer the topic , i don't use many mods too now , at first i tried the major modifications like Darth mod , TROM and the Shogun realism , they are good stuffs in their own right , but then while getting into the online multiplayer mode , i realized i didn't want any changes to the vanilla combat system , so that sp and mp plays the same , to have a consistent experience
So i use the realm divide mod , extended victory campaign to 1640 mod , the radious garrisons v5 mod , the Japanese language fix and that's it now .
I'd love a diplomatic mod which would allow to "request peace" on behalf of one of your allies , because often the AI gets involved in wars it can never end himself , thus preventing the player to ally with clans . The ability to grant fiefs or military units would be cool as well , but as i said initially , i'm especially looking for a mod that limits samurai recruitment for the AI , or maybe some knowledge of how to do it myself if nobody 's interested , so i'm off to look for the mods you made , maybe you already did it![]()
Admittedly the Total War series has come pretty far in actually producing games that don't bore me to tears in their vanilla state. I've put over 200 hours into Empire: Total War, over 120 for Napoleon and I'm at 73 hours for Shogun II.
Right now the only modifications I'm using for Shogun and this is after finishing vanilla campaigns are ones to increase the realm divide requirement and adding more years to the game.
Of course right now I'm installing Medieval II and Kingdoms that I bought just to play mods like Third Age Total War.![]()

Hyrule: Total War: Forces of Twilight
Stainless Steel 6.4: England
Darth Mod even has a button to instantly remove all the chnages it makes.
100% safe.
Mods I use:
Europa Barbarorum.
Stainless Steel.
Third Age Total War.
Darth Mod (S2TW)
Steam Profile: [TWC] Sir Killsalot
I usually use mods that change the game completely like Third Age, ACW for Empire or The Great War for Napoleon.
There is no such mods on Shogun 2 sadly.
