Nice, I've also moved this to the tutorial section as a resource for modders.

There is a bug with the deciduous_a_winter CAS file (summer model is OK). I am getting a graphic glitch, see pic - top is new model, bottom is default.

So far, I don't seem to be getting the glitch.

Winter deciduous trees appear the same as those in robomanus' pics.

I'm using vanilla textures by the way.

Gigantus infact I think it's because of your texture file. try to use vanilla one... if the glitch remains so just upload here your texture file and I'll apply it correctly...

I will try with the default texture

Edit: same result with the default texture, but it is caused due to our altered descr_strategic_lighting file. Once I use default values it is fine again. Possibly that one surface has a different value which makes the texture look fairly white (yellow in the glitch).

Partially - the default texture gave the graphic glitch on your CAS (not on the original), but it was triggered by the changed entry in descr_strategic_lighting.

Your CAS plus original texture plus original lighting = no problem.

do you know what was causing the shadow bug? I ask because I've got similar problem with some strat tree models I made myself and can't figure out what causes it. (have tried comparing your models with the originals in ms3d format and still can't work out what the original issue was)

It's because some polygons of your new trees are too small or there are too many polygons at all so the game can't represent its shadow correctly. There are lots of other steps to do that can't be explained with words, it's a pretty hard work You know so if You still can't fix it upload it here and I'll try to help You
