    Default pezhetairoi ( seleucid )

i've never understood why the AOR of pezhetairoi make them recruitable for seleucids just among the areas contemplated in the export_descr_building.txt and descr_region.txt while the other ones ( argyraspides, hypaspitai, ecc... ) are potencially recruitable in every region. i think this is a nonsense since pezhetairoi, being a mediumheavy infantry unit should be recruitable in most of the hellenic areas contrary to the elite ones that should be more exclusives to the core regions...

iirc the pezhetairoi were composed of Macedonians only, therefore their AOR is restricted to only areas where Macedonians were large in number, namely the larger cities of the Seleukid Empire. Really by the RS2 time frame they had been surpassed by the katoikoi settler phalanx, and it was the settlers who were the backbone of the Hellenistic/Macedonian war machine. Technically the pezhetarioi could be cut from the game as they are more of a relic unit.

maybe you're right. but what about the argyraspides for example? they disappeared since the fall of eumene of cardia by antigonous...if pezhetairoi are a relic, how should be considered the argyraspides ( macedonian as the first ones ) that are recruitable tecnically in EVERY region? this is what i don't understand in the AOR...

well? why not rely on Argyraspidai then? If you can afford them, they're pretty much battle winners against everything, save massed horse archers and if you gave the Roman AI chances, Numbered Legion Spams

The elite phalanx troops of the Seleukids were called the argyraspides historically. They were present at Raphia in 217 B.C., (which is RS2's start date) and there are silver shields described at Magnesia in 189 B.C. as well. So for the Seleukids, they are viable as high tiered, but very expensive, units. I'm not sure about them being recruited in every single region though.

The player should keep them low in number and not have more than 2 units of these in their army. Any more than this is spamming them since this unit was small in number in RS2's time frame.
