Scandinavian Empire History (Short Version)
Scandinavian Empire History
Raids by seaborne Scandinavian pirates on sites in Britain, especially largely undefended monastic sites began at the end of the eighth century AD, the start of King Cnut’s family's rain.
By the end of the ninth century there were large-scale settlements of Scandinavians in various parts of Britain, and they had achieved political domination over a significant territory of islands north and west of Britain. The Vikings were one of the superpowers of their time, but there ship was about to be sunk.
In 1020 Cnut’s great grandfather (Harold) was making good advancements and decided to bring a huge army of Vikings to Caledonia to raid Britannia, but as the ships set off Harold stupidly brought most of his men south and left little defence against any sort of riots from within. As Harold slept, the Briton Loyalists planed their revolt, they quickly organised the freedom from the Vikings rule and the Vikings could do nothing but watch. The ships that had been called for had been told that Harold was killed and the Britons were mass revolting, a quick decision from the general told them to retreat back to Norway.
As Harold heard the news of the riots, he was pretty laid back, for his mass army would arrive and easily dispatch the threat but just to be safe he sent 700 troops to deal with any that had not been caught. The Caledonians continued their revolts and were making very quick advancements, Harold unaware of his army were retreating was the worst misunderstanding in the history of the Vikings. The 700 troops that Harold had sent to dispatch any spare rioters, because the boats should have been here and dealt with the problem had been totally gobsmacked at the amount of numbers they faced. Most stood their ground, some fled, but they were destroyed by the Caledonian rebels’ advancing army. Harold's mistake had bought time for the rioters to organise a proper army and generals to lead it, they were a functioning body.
As a false messenger sent a false letter stating that the Caledonian threat had been eliminated. Harold was happy and started to advance onto a few Briton towns, STILL unaware of the danger that lay behind him. The Caledonians advanced their army and a messenger told the Briton armies general that there were Viking attacks. The Britons retaliated with a huge army to try and get the Vikings while there not ready. The Vikings were trapped in a pincer movement, the Caledonian rebels from the back and the Britons from the front. Harold’s army was crushed and the Britons met with the Caledonians.
The Caledonian rebels, who in reality were Britons who rebelled against the Vikings, gladly accepted Briton protection again.
The Vikings wait for the day a leader could be born, to one again attack the Britons and gain what was (to them) rightfully theirs. The Vikings system totally fell apart they were on the brink of rebelling and splitting into smaller states, but then came King Cnut. He stabilised the kingdom and sorted out the feuds between different parts of the Scandinavian Empire. King Cnut is credited for saving Scandinavia and is hoped to be the one to lead there armies to crush the Britons once and for all!

King Cnuts Plans (What goes on in Scandinavia) 1100 January: King Cnut has ordered The Invasion of Brittania. The people are very pleased and the soliders have high spirts. Commander Zorata and Brunes of Agder will be there to lead the two seperate armys. King Cnut orders Genaral Cando and Baton the Strong to lead the empire while he is gone rather than his younger brother Baro, as he is "To young and foolish". Prince Baro is lead to belives he commands the country to an extent, but he truely has little control.
Trade is set up with Koln makeing them much more liked by the population of Scandinavia, and the Greco-Roman empire are seen as betrayers that go against there word.
Cnut orders Baton to find a worthy wife for him after the war (If he makes it). Baton the Strong sets out with 100 elite chosen swrodsmen as his bodyguard and head for the borders of Denmark.
Cnut hears of the King Baldwins words towards them before Baton could reason with him, he felt like withdrawing his attack from the Brittnians since they had not spoken foul words, maybe Baldwin should feel there blades instead! But then Cnut hears of the assination of Baldwin and walks to the church with his soliders, this was truely an act of the Gods being on his side. Soon after they partyed through the night. (Not knowing Baldwin survied)
