edit: I like how the original ARMA 2 costs less than the DLCs. lol.

Would the PMC DLC work with the Steam version?

I'm not sure. I know Pugs gifted Danny the steam version of the BAF DLC and he couldn't get it to work so it doesn't work out on this end.

This Gamersgate thing is great for me as a person with the retail version as I couldn't benefit from steam deals.

Do you need to download a client like steam does?

First time using Gamers Gate myself and I didn't have to download any additional software (as far as I am aware of, nothing on the scale of steam). Once you have purchased it, it just opens it's own tiny downloader thing and then you install as normal. I had no issues.
