    Diplomacy
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

The Knights of Saint John : Alliance, Excellent Relations, Trading : One of the Empire's main allies and have had great ties between the nations throughout history. Cooperate on destroying the accursed Corsairs that plauge the waters of the Mediterrean.
The Imperium Britannia : Alliance, Good Relations, Trading : The Alliance between the two Empires has been reforged due to recent threats to both Kingdoms by a fool of a nation. Also the fact that Britannia most likely will be a competitor to the Empire for colonies soon enough.
The Kingdom of Gaul : Poor relations. Vassal of Britannia that is looked to be a serious threat to the Empire.
The Empire of Bohemia : Good Relations, Trading : Have a NAP and trade agreement with the Bohemians.
The Grand Republic of Koln : Poor Relations, viewed with suspicion by the Imperial Court for their intrests in Africa, even though there is a large expanse between Morocco and Koln holdings.
The Kingdom of the Netherlands : Neutral. Limited contact between the nations, although Nabudiis watches their colonial expansions.
Sultanate of Aceh : No contact besides the occassional merchant returning from the Orient.
Empire of the Rising Sun : No contact besides the occassional missionary or merchant returning from Nippon.
Principality of Archangel : Limited Contact.
Nova Roma : Very Poor relations following a diplomatic meeting in which their emissary attempted to bribe the Empress. Also their horrific treatment of Catholics and control of the Holy City are issues as well.
The Lords of Winter : Cordial relations, now trading.
Barbary Shogunate : Terrible Relations, at war. The Barbary Corsairs, a menace to the Mediterrean Sea for years, just the most recent incarnate for piracy. But they are organized, unlike other Pirates were for the most part. A dangerous threat, and the fact they hold lands the Empire considers there, not to mention the decades of Pirate raids on Sicily, Naples, Morocco, Baleric Isles, Sardinia, Corsica, Naples, and Imperial merchants and patrols has gone on for long enough. It is time for them to pay in blood for their crimes.
The "Exiles of the Maltese-Tunisian Company"- Terrible relations, at war. A false nation that believes they have the right to Imperial land, and harass our allies over Malta. Are viewed to be a annoying nation who believed they should get land for just sending some exotic fruit for some probably useless reason. Gibraltar is closed to them, with the Armada having full clearence to shoot on sight any enemy war vessel and capture any mercantile vessel, can shoot it if they resist.
Prussia- Poor relations, their King has expressed support for an enemy of the Empire and insulted the Empress by saying Nabudis was a "radical" Catholic nation. There is no reason for any further dislike, but any diplomatic meeting will probably be kept to the minimum for a while.
Potosi- Current Diplomacy unknown. Possible Portuguese rebel state that formed, or other. May send expedition to discover.
    Trade :
Britannia, Bohemia, Knights of St.John,Lords of Winter ( All 600,000)
    Goals :
1- Reform the Empire : Nabudis has nearly been restored to it's original state(This does not include Naples), only a few more Berber tribes that have been organized into something called a "Shogunate" along with the Barbary corsairs stand in the way of the Empire's restoration
2- Expand the Colonies : The Old World is rather boring and Empress Celene would rather be focused on gathering colonies and perhaps even a colony in India.
3- Hold current lands : Mantain the status quo, of course.
4- Diplomacy : Amass trade routes and alliances. Of course controlling Gibraltar is a major advantage for Nabudis, which could seal off the Mediterrean to anyone they choose, or prevent access to the Atlantic.
    Trade Items :
Metals, Wool, lumber, citrus, spices, artwork, paints, oils, pottery, Wine

    Imperial Army Units :
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Rare Soldiers :

Imperial Sharpshooters : Elite snipers of the Light Infantry that are masters of picking off select targets from distances some believed impossible to be hit from by a gun. Also can deploy stakes.
Imperial Klesspersendo- The Secret Police of Nabudis that are used, along with the Inquisition to supress any enemy activities in Nabudis varying from spying to Portuguese uprisings. Armed with muskets and several types of knives.
    Elite Units :
The Imperial Foot Guard : The finest of the Imperial Musketeers or Grenadiers are selected to wear the black uniforms of the Imperial Guard. Unwavering loyalty to the Crown and to Nabudis, these soldiers carry out their orders without hesitation and are the last ones to leave the battlefield. Their prescence inspires other soldiers.
Imperial Guard Grenadiers- The elite of the Foot guard. Wear intimidating hats and are armed with a musket and sabre for defense. Have several grenades to throw at the enemy
Imperial Guard Tiradores- Expert Marksmen who serve as the Light Infantry component of the Guard, usually softening up an enemy position with their precision fire before the rest of the Guard attacks
Imperial Horse Guard : The best of the Imperial cavalry adorned in black armor.

Imperial Cuirassiers : Descedents of the Chevaliers, these soldiers combine the Imperial Dragoons and Cavalry into a potent combination of expert marksmen and skilled in melee. Naturally weak against the Pike or other spears, just as all other cav, and weak against enemy Musketeers as well. They make up for it with their skill in combat.
Imperial Guard Artillery- The finest artillerymen in Nabudis. Can fire canister or roundshot with accuracy and a rather fast reload.
    Guard Units :
Esperanza Regiment- A experienced Musketeer Regiment formed in 1503 by Emperor Enrique. Has fought in every war since then and recieved several battle honors.
Toledo Regiment- A experienced Musketeer Regiment formed in 1540 as part of the Military Reformation.
    Veteran Units :
Imperial Grenadiers : The toughest or most intimidating looking soldiers of the Musketeers who serve for several years are promoted into the Grenadiers.
Imperial Marksmen : Select soldiers who are drilled in advanced light infantry tactics to serve as a screen for the Imperial Army on the march and to snipe enemy commanders when possible. Have stakes to defend themselves from cavalry charges, or weaken them.
    Imperial Lanceros-
    Professional Units :

Imperial Fusiliers of the Line : Classified.

Imperial Musketeer : Soldiers drilled constantly and trained to march and fight as a unit, rather than as individual soldiers. Excellent marksmen, trained with the bayonet or a sword for melee defense, and formations to counter enemy infantry or cavalry. Usually can be found in regiments of 1,000 soldiers, 3 companies of 300 and 100 of other soldiers like officers, standard bearers, musicians and support like wagon drivers or surgeons.

Imperial Regiment of Horse : Not as well trained as the Musketeers, but trained enough to give a good account of themselves usually in battle. Armed with sabres.

Imperial Lanceros : Lanceros put their entire combat power into the charge, with lower staying power than other cavalry as their sole weapon is the lance.
    Watch Units :
Imperial Militia : Citizens armed with Arablest and a sword. Lightly armored and poorly trained, knowing a few sword attacks and how to fire and reload the crossbow.

    Reigonal Units :
    Berber Cavalry :
Berber Janissaries- Somehow the Berbers discovered what a Janissary is and adopted the style for their Musketeers. Are rather rowdy and incoherent in formation, but good in melee with their curved swords.
    Zenaga Berber Cavalry

    Corsican Tiralleur
Army of Naples : Neapolitian versions of standard Imperial troops, usually of slightly lower quality.
    Inquisitorial Units :
Paladins : Guard/Heavy Cavalry- The elite of the Inquisition, fighting from horseback with lance and sword. Nearly unbreakable morale, and will pursue a target to it's death, or theirs if hunting heretics.
Templars- Veteran/Archer-Infantry- Marksmen armed with longbows trained to snipe off marked targets with professional effectiveness. Heavily armored and capable in a melee.

Inquisitorial Musketeers- Musketeers trained in the style of the Imperial Army, but wear the white with red cross uniform of the Inquisition.

    Imperial Navy :

Imperial War Galleon : Massive warships equipped with tremendous firepower and a decent sized compliment of marines to deter boarders. Designed to ensure Nabudis's dominance of the Western Atlantic from enemy larger vessels, while smaller ships are used to support the Galleons against the Corsairs or any threats to the Imperial Armada.

Imperial Light Galleon : Smaller Galleon equipped to take on the enemy in a set piece battle, but also have some capablity of fighting the larger(medium sized) pirate ships that the Corsairs use if they capture a ship they deem useful, as theirs are usually small size and fast, making them difficult to hit.

Imperial Light Warship : To counter the Barbary Corsairs, Nabudis has employed the same style of ship they use for their vessels as the light support warships for the Armada. Capable of outmanuevering the enemy, these ships are used to chase and fight the pirates, or attempt to corral them so the galleons may open fire upon them.

Berber Warship : A warship designed by the Berbers of the Empire to be used as a military support vessel. Lighter than the Imperial Light Warship, these ships are generally fragile but have excellent movement speed and control, making them hard to hit if conditions are right and the captain is capable.

Default Re: The Empire of Nabudis

    History of Nabudis :

600- The Kingdom of Nabudis is founded by Crystal I Solidor, the daughter of the Vandal Duke of Carthage after marrying one of the deceased High King's main generals, Lyon. The two are widely accepted as rulers by the Vandals, Berber allied tribes, and the Sicilian/Sardinian Italians.
602-620 : Expansion of the Kingdom to Corsica, Baleric Isles, and Algeria.
620-630 : Neapolitian War : Nabudis originally sided with the Latin Republic, but when they were revealed to be with the Eastern Roman Empire, Nabudis broke the alliance and instead supported Aquitania and Naples, fighting the other 2 nations to a standstill.
635 : Spartacan Invasion of Corsica is deterred and under the Prince of Corsica, Nabudis seizes their capitial and razes it to the ground. Shortly after, the Franks invade and conquer the area for their Kingdom, driving out the few survivors.

1120 ; After seriously weakening the Moorish Caliphate, Queen Selene orders the Invasion of Galacia, led by High Chancellor Crystal Solidor. With support from Nabudis loyalists, the Portuguese "King of Galacia" was easily defeated, and in a heroic victory, Lord Admiral Victarion defeated the Portuguese Navy off of Gibraltar. The Queen led the army of Barcelona against Lisbon, and in a five year siege managed to take it, killing the Portuguese King there in single combat. Control of Portugal would not be completed until 1500s as the Portuguese would rebel and gain some land, lose it, retreat to their holdings in Oporto, and repel the Imperial offensive in that cycle until the 1500s with the occasional truce or treaty in between.

1378 : Nabudis Inquisition started to root out heretics, spiraled out of control for ten years between 1390 and 1400 as the Grand Inquisitior became paranoid and believed nearly everyone was a heretic. Was removed by the Inquisitorial Paladins in 1400 for his attempt to denouce the King of Nabudis. His replacement restored the Inquisition to it's proper practice, defending the Kingdom from heresy and promoting the Catholic faith amongst the people.
1402 : Nabudis attacks the Kingdom of Naples and Sicily after Sicilian pirates constantly harassed Nabudis trade lanes. Sicily fell in 3 years, and Southern Italy was conquered within 10. A junior branch of the Imperial family was appointed to the throne of Naples and they have ruled since then, for nearly 200 years.

1450 : Nabudis, after finishing the Reconquista in Iberia, invade Moorish Morocco and after 15 years of fighting, conquer Morocco. After several years of military governship, the Zenaga Berbers, as one of the most promient vassals of the Empire are granted permission to establish the Sultanate of Marrakesh, a Berber vassal state to the Imperial Crown. Several Nabudis nobles still were given land in the area, but for the most part Morocco was like Naples, a slightly autonomous state under Imperial supervision.

1492 : Christopher Columbus, funded by the Crown, discovers the New World and a Imperial colony on an Island named Hispaniola is established. Within twenty years it would become a rather profitable colony for the Empire. Columbus would have several more trips to the New World. This would set off some other Imperial funded explorers to search for other lands.(Magellan, Amerigo Vespucci, Vasco de Gama, ie any Spanish/Portuguese funded explorers)

1500 : Crown Prince Enrique takes the throne as Enrique X following the death of Emperor Alphonse VI during a visit to Lisbon due to Portuguese Seperatists. The Oporto Rebellion that followed was quickly supressed and 1,000 Portuguese rebels and supporters were executed for high treason in 1503. The Imperial Army continued campaigns in Oporto until 1509, when the final Portuguese resistance's castle was conquered and the self-proclaimd King of Portugal was killed charging out of the castle in a attempt to escape.

1511 : The Conquest of Jamaica : The Viceroy of Hispaniola, supported by some of his Carib tribal allies conquered the Island of Jamaica and established the city of Port Royal as the colonial capitial during the twenty-year campaign, of which the local tribes fought guerrilla style warfare that the Colonial Imperial forces still had not accustomed to facing.

1520 : Imperial Military Reformation begins with Nabudis reorganizing it's command strucutre, officer corps., Artillery, and most parts of the military. Light Infantry and Grenadier doctrines are introduced, with test regiments drawn from the desired ranks of the Imperial Regiments of the Line. The reformed Imperial military, although not as elite as some other nations who claim to have the best of something, are highly organized and well-supplied.

1540 : Emperor Enrique dies due to dieseas, and is succeeded by his daughter Empress Isabella III. The Imperial Army also launches a massive offensive into Algeria, and the reformation proves to be effective as the Imperial Army was capable of defeating the Berbers in most engagments, and supply lines were well-mantained. Although in 1565, the Imperial Army was recalled to Morocco to prevent a force from the south of Morocco from seizing Marrakesh, causing the Imperial loss of Algeria to the Berbers, who have now been organized by some foreigners into something called a "Shogunate".

1555 : The Crimson-Silver Concordant signed. A document stating that the Imperial Inquisition is to be reformed into a police force for the Empire, after several of the Inquisitorial heads killed several notable Imperial Berber chieftans, the head of the Esperanza Mercantile Guild(for being a jew), and several other incidents. The Empress was furious and had all of the Inquisition arrested by the Imperial Guard for their actions, before forcing them to sign the Concordant that broke their power in Nabudis for good, limiting them to minor police actions in Iberia and peaceful conversion methods except in provinces recently conquered by the Empire and have been granted permission to act in that area.

1598 : Empress Isabella dies of disease and her young daughter takes the throne. She creates a personal guard that doubles as a secret police force, allowing her to easily crush the Moroccan and Portuguese rebellions that were started after her mother's death, thinking the change of rule would buy them enough time to secede. Instead the leaders are all dealt with quietly and quickly, and without their heads, the rebels either dissapted into the populace or were defeated by local milita.

    1600 : Current Year.

The entourage's arrival at the Capitial of Esperanza does attract some attention, but also the gaze of the Inquisition, who observe the entourage's movement to the Imperial Palace. Black-coated soldiers of the Imperial Guard also are on guard, and remove any weapons from the soldiers to be held at the Palace Gate before leading them into the Palace grounds. The grounds are filled with native and exotic plants, with some sculptures. Rising behind it is the entrance to the Palace.

The diplomat and his entourage are led through to the Imperial Court, where they see the various banners of the empire, more Imperial Guards lining the sides of the room.

On the throne sits the young Empress of Nabudis, to her right is the Lord Chancellor, and to her left is several other advisors. She stares at the emissary and his entourage as they arrived.

    "Speak."

The Roman bows before the Empress

"Your Highness, I bring word from Rome. My Emperor feels it would be beneficial for us both if we could agree to cooperate in the future. This in practice means we wish to look at purchasing your Southern Italian holdings. It is only a small part of your mighty Empire and the financial recompense would more than make up for it, not to mention our future loyalty to you. In a spirit of cooperation we also wish to open trade with you. Our primary export is cotton, but also rice, indigo, tobacco and sugar cane."

Besides that, while your Emperor may benefit from such a deal, I see nothing advantageous for my Empire from this besides the loss of the Kingdom of Naples ...and he offers trade as well, all goods my merchants are capable of accquiring from either my own colonies or via trade with Natives in the New World, or the Orient to the East."

"As the protector of the Latin people the Emperor views it as his responsibility to bring these people under his fold, they are Latins whose heart lies in the eternal city of Rome. The riches of Rome are available if you accept, perhaps even some of our territories. Our own claim to the Eastern half of Cuba and perhaps even Florida is negotiable. He has no real desire to force the issue.

As for trade I'm sure you will find Roman goods far more agreeable. There is simply no way anywhere else in the world can keep up with the cotton production capacity in our American Territory, as well as other agricultural goods. The price would be far lower on our vast plantations than is possible on small native farms and it would save a hazardous journey round the Cape of Good Hope in order to reach the orient. Plus the climate in the Caribbean is too warm for cotton anyway."

"I will not be bribed by some foreign nation just so their Emperor can claim his responsibility. How do you know if the Neapolitians would want to be under your nation? You don't. I also am not interested in your colonial provinces as I predict that the peoples there allied to you would rebel when the Empire comes into power of those areas. Overall, I see no offer here, but more something like a poor attempt to bribe me, as your Emperor gains and I do not...and don't reply saying that the recompensation and a small exchange of territories would make up for it, as over time it will not.

No, I will not. I already have trade relations with another nation for cotton, and the journey to the Orient only makes the goods that more valuable when Imperial ships return with the goods."
