Yeah...that is what a great fighter would do.....walk into a blade to look badass for you people...knowing that the wound could kill you...yeah great fighter he...revenge of the faceplam

Drogo only did that in the tv show in the books he took an accidental wound while fighting the lamb men i believe. TBH i don't entirely understand your point - Drogo was so confident in his fighting abilities that he thought that he could take a wound and still beat Mago – and he was right – had it not been for mirri maz durr he’d probably be fine. If you’re going to have a bigger issue with someone for getting cut Fat Belwas is a better target due to his love of S & M I mean letting his opponents cut him before he kills them.

Also whilst I appreciate your point that Martin is in charge and could do anything each character has their own traits and based on the evidence we have available to us we can make educated guesses. Whilst it is possible that Martin could write a scene where Littlefinger physically beats down the Mountain that rides I think it unlikely.

I agree with Sandy, and to elaborate on the Khal Drogo thing he was considered an excellent fighter? Both the series and books I believe mentioned that he had never before lost a fight, which is why his hair braid was so long. Of course it wasn't that long in the show, but theres a limit to what you can do with fake hair.

SO Drogo was actually a great fighter.

-Ahem-, I think it's about time that I'd point something out.

Arn't we talking about the best fighter in Westeros here? Khal Drogo and Fat Belwas has nothing to do in here, based on them being Essos wierdos and all...

Oh and for the recrod; Thoros of Myr. A large redrobed bald holy man wielding a flaming sword? I'd piss my pants and just stand there numbstruck with terror as he chopped me head off savagly. Also it is pretty clear that he is Azor Ahai Reborn. It is known.

true but when people say westeros they probably mean the world on which westeros essos and southyros are on (which i don't think has been named yet).

    Westros

Back in the days- Barristan before he was old, Robert when he's still hunting, fighting and siring bastards all across the land.

In the Present- Sandor, even Jaime is afraid to fight this guy in a friendly duel and he was considered one of the finest swordsmen across the land.

Give Tyrion an axe and he's the best fighter in all the land.

    Assuming Syrio's dead, that is.
Jon had taken Donal and Benjen’s advice to heart: Sam may be fat and pathetic, but he is still a member of the watch, and one of the few black brothers who isn't a rapist or thief. (out of context, this sounds ridiculously racist)

I think the Reason thoros did so well when fighting was almost all due to his flaming swords, both pyromancer's piss and Rhlor blessed. He didn't have any exceptional talent of his own.

Well he probably had some skill with a sword, not every person in the melee would have struck down with fear of the fat priest and his flaming tooth-pick.

Syrio Forel FTW! He's a great fighter indeed!

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
He was the first to train Arya turning her from a indisciplined little girl into something more. Moreover he could have killed that knight (don't remember the name) while he was protecting Arya's escape if he was armed with a real sword instead of having a training sword. Infact before she run away, Arya saw Syrio hitting the knight 3 times (even in the face if I recall well). However he managed to kill or badly wound 5 lannister guard with just that training sword!

    ---

EDIT - Oh yes! The name of the knight was Meryn Trant!

Ser Barriston Selmy obviously. Even in a wheelchair he would wipe the floor with the rest of these fools

The answer is Arthur Dayne, with Dawn. No question or room for debate.

If you're talking about only living people, then I would say Selmy, though at his current age, the Mountain would be a very close second.

What about Selmy on Hodor jousting with Victarion on the Mountain?

    Who would win?
