    Who says he's dead eh?
We only know the Kingsguard guy he was fighting lived afterwards, but it's not mentioned anywhere he died

I read an re-read the books many years ago, when they first appeared. I thought that fight was in the books as well. Anyway, the survival at the tower of joy and him being a veteran of several battles during the war of the usurper and the war of the ninepenny kings should be sufficient

Eddard Stark shouldn't even be on this list, and as much as I like our Griffin, his name is misspelled.

Really though, he almost killed Robert, but he had to retreat. We need votes for Connington! But I still think Mance Rayder could kill him.

Lastly, I know I suggested Symon Toyne, and he was a great fighter, but as far as we know, he's dead. I hope we'll see some Toyne banners in the mod?

Jaime any day even Selmy said that he was one of the best natural swordsmen he has seen, and being a witty badass helps

IIRC we do not know the faith of Syrio...

I think Syrio is still alive and is instructing Arya in the House of Black and White. They can change their faces you know.

well I know for sure who the most underhanded, the most brutal, the most handsome and the most honourable fighter is... but the "greatest" can only be one imo: Syrio Forel.
I too believe he may yet live, but I'm convinced he is not a faceless man.

What if he has been disguised as Meryn Trant after he killed him all this time?

Are we talking duelist or ability to rip through a battlefield?

Cuz some guys might be amazing duelists but wouldn't wrack up the body count of some people they could beat one on one.

    book spoiler
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Oberyn easily beat Clegane 1v1 ( till he messed up by toying with him instead of finishing him) because he was nimbler and outlasted him, but Clegane would do much better on a battlefield swinging his greatsword around like a toothpick and wearing 50kg of metal on his 2500lb warhorse

Syrio, Oberyn, Drogo, Bronn, etc. are nimble, equip light and are in amazing shape so make excellent duelists and would beat guys like Ned, Robert, or Clegane 1 v 1, but those guys are built more to cleave through enemy lines on a battlefield.

I would say that Hotah is ridiculously strong and fast though, and has that nasty longaxe that's effective both 1v1 and on a battlefield.

although I do forget the "all men must serve" one. My point was just saying that Syrio might very well be a faceless man and escaped...

About Syrio Forel , he says that he refused to assassinate a person for his Bravoosi master. This leave us a hundred of possibilities of what he became after he left the post of First Sword .He may have entered the House of Black and White to learn and become an assassin. What if he's target was someone inside King Landing's court.Disguised as Meryn Trant he could strike at any time .
