Let's see who would you choose as your champion.
Areo Hotah
Jaime Lannister (before being maimed)
Syrio Forel
Mance Ryder
Gregor Clegane
Sandor Clegane
Garlan Tyrell
Bronze Yohn
Lothar Brune
Oberyn Martel
Bronn
Khal Drogo
Barristan Selmy (when he was a tad younger)
VIctarion Greyjoy
Eddard Stark
Jon Cunnington
Symon Toyne
I wanted to vote for Garlan but no one is as strong as the Mountain.
Oh, and the way you spelled "Connington" not only made me chuckle but also reminded me that I have a dirty mind.
"I doubt you can understand the magnitude of the stupidity in your statement."
Jaime Lannister for president!
Jon Cunnington? Is he the adult-rated version? Haha!
Ser Barristan "the Bold" Selmy would be my champion with no doubt's at all.
A Bastion of Chivalry is what the man is ...a true knight.
Clegane's are false knight's .
Barristan "when he was a tad younger"? Wtf?
He'll still own everyone's ass
rules all
where's darkstar, lyn corbray, howland reed? etc. and who voted for eddard lol surely thats a joke, i went for areo hotah because he's a killer who doesnt mess about but i would've maybe trumped for reed just because of the tower of joy
I vote for Eddard because he did kill some of the best fighters in Westeros at the Tower of Joy, albeit with some help. I almost voted for Jaimie, but You only see him fight once in the series, and that is against Brienne. While Brienne is strong, I do not think she is in league with some of the others in this poll. She herself says she would have lost if his hands hadn't been bound. The other fights were against people whose abilities as fighters we do not know. As for Barristan, we haven't seen him straight out brawl with anyone yet. He did kill Maelys the Monstrous and Simon Toyne, so I might have voted for him as well, but the Tower of Joy made me decide for Eddard, since he went up against Arthur Dayne, one of the best fighters in Westeros of the time, Gerold Hightower, who as Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, was probably pretty strong. Granted he had help, but he still was able to kill them, not an easy feat.

Those who do not know the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them.

I tried to focus on the characters of which we have a bit more than an ounce of knowledge of fighting power, either from other char povs or from the history of the books. Aside from Corbray, whom I don't think would have gathered a sufficient fan base by now to be an actual contender, the rest are insufficiently described for the task at hand.
And 2, Eddard was a great fighter, aside from the Tower of Joy which was no easy feat surviving the best two swordsmen in the realm at the time,Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
I am pretty sure Dayne was about to kill Eddard but Howland Reed saved the day. GRRM has also stated somewhere that Eddard was not as good with a sword as Brandon but he was a decent swordsman and rider but that's it, not comparable to the best fighters in Westeros.
Ser Barristan for me as well.

But that last part isn't in the books so the question is if we're talking about the movies or the books. Because in the books Eddard isn't all that impressive with a sword in comparison with the rest of the big names. And 2, Eddard was a great fighter, aside from the Tower of Joy which was no easy feat surviving the best two swordsmen in the realm at the time,
