I do (unless I'm elves, rohan, dwarfes, evil... Man this mod messes with my normal plan...) 9x best infantry (not pikes, I don't like them), 6x archers(unless British... I mean elvish...), 4x cavalry or 2x cavalry, 2x horse archers/siege engines.

favourite tactic? 8 blocks of archers, some infantry and 3 catapults (set to flaming boulders) + osgilliath bridge + huge orc armies = charred arrow covered massacre

In my armies there are only 2-3 archer units, sometimes 4 but never more.

RHUN (especially VS Dwarven armies):

Front line:
2x Ballistas - Left front. (Flaming ammo, fire at will)
4x Crossbows - Right front. (Guard mode, skirmish disabled)

Second line:
2x Balchoth Tribesmen - Left - behind(/on top of) the ballistas. (Guard mode, skirmish disabled)
2x Catapults - Right - just behind the crossbows. (Flaming ammo, fire at will)

Third line:
4x Clan Guard - (Mmmmm.... AP

)

Fourth line:
2x Generals - (But ready to flank when necessary)

Flanks:
4x Variag Raiders - To run forward at the start, shoot at superclose range, then return to flanks.

I love watching those little guys burn...

Hammer and anvil tactic. Not the most sophisticated one, but the easiest one to deploy in this game and efficient against any faction and with any faction. The enemy AI easily allows its armies to be clogged together which means you only need a fraction of units to keep the entire enemy army at bay.

My Rohan armies for field battles consist purely of cavalry. Infantry is only used to assault or defend cities

2-4 x Skirmishers
4-6 x Horse archers
1 General
8-12 x Heavy cavalry

It basically works like this: I split my archers into 2 groups and go from both sides and let them deal a fine amount of damage from behind. Usually, this sets the enemy armies into motion so I use all my heavy cavalry for a massive charge against their disorganized army (if they have spearmen or are NOT moving then I split the heavy cav into 2 and attack from 2 sides). Skirmishers are used for trolls or mumakil (if there's neither then they just skirmish the main line before the charge).
