Default Post-Marian Roman General doesn't work?

I've been trying to find some answers for this around the forum but I couldnt find any, so I hope you can help me out.

    This is whats been happening:

    - awesome roman campaign
    - triggered marian reforms by building an imperial palace at akragas
    - saved game and quit
    - ticked the box on the launcher that says "post marian roman general"
    - aaaaaand...started the game again, loaded the script etc etc

Now... as you might know when your "pre marian" generals (lets say Scipio) still has the old appearance of a general, the new recruited onces or family members when coming of age should then have the NEW appearance.... but they dont...

I tried and tried again, ticked it off and on, clicked some on the save button on the launcher but nothing helps.

Do any of you super-highly intelligent RS2 vets know what I perhaps did wrong or can tell me the known issue.

I dont wanna think I have to get a mare nostrum without the general with the awesome white plume.
(ohw and I didnt have this problem with my previous campaigns)

Help would be very appreciated Thank you

I don't remember a checkbox for that, since I have been back to RSI for a while, but maybe you need to check it before you start the campaign?

No I did not, but thanks for the suggestion. Anyway, I did not check that box whilst starting, I DID check it while I triggered the reforms like described above.

Hopefully there will be more suggestion tomorrow,

    Thanks in advance

No it doesnt need to be done before starting a campaign. It can be done anytime. Just check the box and it should work. At least it works for me.

well that's just weird. I could tell you how to swap them out manually but that isn't exactly what you're after and a bit more like work. Good luck anyways...

Yes! Normally it would work for me as well, thats why im a little puzzeled that it doesn't...

It's just so weird to see your praetorian body guard along with a greek-styled pre marian general

Have you tried deleting the relevant map.rwm? That might do the trick.

Thats just the problem. First I uncheck the box, deleted map.rwm, saved and started the game. Then I repeat it only with the marian box checked... and still I get the pre-marian general. Did this a couple of times and not one combination seems te do anything at ALL..

Thanks to all who's been trying to help me, but hasnt anyone experienced this before?? Am I really the only one who's or: too stupid to get it done, or who's launcher doens't work properly

I have the same issue. Legatvs Legionis model with the Pre-Marian general.

Additionally I am unable to use the launcher so I have to launch it from the files in the game folder. I don't mind as all my preferences had been saved as I liked them but is there any way to edit them without using the launcher? (I assume I would also be able to edit the Pre-Marian/Post-Marian general setting as well).

I experienced this before. My solution is getting used to it.

Well let me know when there's a way to fix it. I'm really not the type of messing with gamefiles etc. Ill be happy to hear from you.

Same here. I have always wondered why it didn't work. I am sure there are many more people out there, but no one ever addressed the issue before.

Wouldnt that be a right moment now? Because of 2.2 being released in the near future... (maybe) We should tell the dev's that its noticed by many... and it cant be resolved as far as I know.. but this is the first time I have this problem, 3rd roman campaign....

Just to be sure, what you want is the general with the white feathered plume and the Russell Crowe face, and what you have is the red horsehair plume and caesar face?

If that is the case, I could tell you how to swap them out for certain, but it would involve editing like 2 lines of text in the descr_character.txt file - which is actually really simple and as long as you make a backup copy of the file, you don't have to worry about messing anything up.

Note: this would mean, however, that you'd have to change between the original file and the one referencing the feather-plumed general by hand every time that you start a new campaign and again when you trigger the reforms. Which I imagine - if it worked correctly - is what the button in the launcher was supposed to do for you.

You are correct sir. I would like to try that, although I have to have a very detailed description on how to do that exactly, AND I'd only have to do that once in my current campaign.

Also, like I said earlier, shouldnt the dev's know about this so they can fix/eliminate the problem before 2.2???

I'm sure they would by now, but you can always tell one of them directly, I'd imagine. DVK is the coordinator, so I'd recommend him.

As far as how to swap the general models, it's simple. The DMB already has entries for both versions, so all you have to do is tell the game which one to reference. Just follow these steps:
    1) Go into the "data" folder in your RSII install folder and find the file called "descr_character.txt".
    2) COPY (do NOT cut) that file.
    3) Create a new folder called "character backups" or something like that, and paste the copy of "descr_character.txt" into that folder.
    4) Rename the copy to something like "descr_character_pre.txt".
    5) Paste an identical copy into the same folder, renaming that one "descr_character_post.txt".
    6) Open the file you named "post", scroll down into the "named character" section and find the entry for "romans_brutii" and change the "model_battle" line from "greek_general" to "roman_general" (just highlight "greek" and change it to "roman").
6a) If you want to change the model for your captains as well, you have to scroll down and make the same changes in the "generals" section.

From there, all you'll ever have to do is this:
    >> If you want the pre-marian general, you copy your "descr_character_pre.txt", paste it to your desktop, change the name of this copy back to "descr_character.txt", and move it back into the data folder where the actual file referenced by the game is (overwriting the original file that is there).
    >> For post-marian, do this with your "descr_character_post.txt".

***note: I'm not sure, but you may have to do this for the "play_rome" folder. In that case, make sure to create separate backups (either in separate folders, or with different names like "descr_character_pre_playrome.txt", etc.) in which you make the same changes. Just make sure that when you are moving the files around, the ones for the data folder always go together and to are put into data folder when you use them, and ones from "play_rome" go to that folder.

Looks like a lot of steps, but really it's going to take less time and effort for you to do it than for me to explain it.

And just remember never to change the actual text inside your "descr_character_pre.txt" << this file is your get-out-of-jail-free card in case you mess up, which I doubt you will, but just in case.

Actually, your settings are stored in a file in a folder called "preferences" which is just inside your main install folder. Unless these guys have worked some strange kind of voodoo on it though, I don't think you'll find anything in there to tell the game which models to reference. If it actually works, the launcher would likely be the only way to do that other than the manual way I just described.
