Default The Fatherland and the Motherland

Ok, I know a WWII mod is out of the question, but what about one focussing entirely on the Eastern Front? Putting planes as strat map pieces should work for the Eastern Front, same with naval battles. Plus it was one helluva epic war, tanks, all sorts of diff infantry types, like snipers, Russian Marines, Volkstuurms, Partisans, Cossack cavalry, etc.

    Factions:

    The Soviet Union
    The Third Reich
    Finland
    Hungary

This is just an IDEA, I dont have the time or ability to do it, but I'm just wondering how doable it is and I'm hoping someone may come along and take this up.

Well as a WWII mod of any kind is impossible, why do you think an eastern front one is?

Becuase it's not relying so heavily on air and naval battles, therefore we can afford to make them all strat map type battles.

That and since Comrade Alexeo was able to make tanks..

Sorry this is kind of of-topic but I've always wonered why Germany is known as the Fatherland and Russian the Motherland, just something I've always wondered heh. I'm talking about the history of why they are labeled as such.

"And I have felt the sudden blow of a nameless wind's cold breath,
And watched the grisly pilgrims go that walk the roads of Death,
And I have seen black valleys gape, abysses in the gloom,
And I have fought the deathless Ape that guards the Doors of Doom."

Even so the eastern front did use a lot of planes, and using the RTw style formations for tank warfar is ludicrous, tanks would not fight in a group like soldiers do in RTW, but i do realise that yes tanks are possible.

Actually tanks do, and did, fight in groups.

I would know, being a track crewman in the USMC. It's not quite a tank, but we both use armored warfare tactics. You usually don't want to split armor up in groups smaller than a section, if ever possible (2-3 vehicles).

Planes were used extensively in the Eastern front for a start...
I just cannot see it working to be honest...and theres other games that already do this. Combat Mission 2 for example. Awesome wargame, set in the eastern front. brilliant.

if you want to play a WW2 type strat map type campaign why not play a different game altogether that was made for this time period like hearts of iron II? seems a little like trying to squeeze a round peg into a square hole

EDIT oops - should have read stalin's response first

i think that for the tanks you could make a unit of about 10 and just make them in a very loose formation
say about in a formation of 20, 15 or so
