Default RTR VII Download Mirrors and Installation Guide

    RTR VII
~ Download Mirrors and Installation Guide ~

    Download Links
The RTRVII Installer is now available from the following:

    RTRVII - DepositFiles
    RTRVII - Strategy Informer
    RTRVII - ModDB

Please note that the mirrors above are hosted by commercial companies which usually offer a two-tier level of service. Their free service will normally make you wait before you begin the download (anything from one to eight minutes!), and the download rate is typically 35 KB/s, giving a download time of between five and six hours, however, at least it is free. Alternatively, if you are prepared to pay for their premium service (from 5 to 20 US Dollars for one to two months) things are potentially a lot faster, as download managers and download acceleration is usually supported. We are by no means recommending one service over another, as the choice has to be yours. Only you can decide whether or not it is worth your while to pay for something you may only ever use once.

Are you able and willing to host a mirror of RTRVII? If so, please let me know and forward a link that I can add to the above list. You will have the teams thanks, and that of the RTR community, as well as your name credited alongside your link.

    Installation Instructions

    1. Install Rome Total War.
    2. Install Barbarian Invasion expansion.
    3. Install the BI v1.6 Patch.
    4. Download and install RTRVII to the Rome - Total War directory. (RTRVII is mod-foldered and will not interfere with any original game files or any other correctly designed and installed mod-foldered RTW modification.)
    5. Optional: If you want the RTR VII intro movie to display go to "...\Rome Total War\RTRVII\Data\fmv" and copy "RTRVII_Intro.wmv" this to "...\Rome Total War\bi\data\fmv" and rename the movie "BI_Intro_640x480.wmv" after making a backup of the old file. This is the only part of the mod that cannot be in the modfolder.

If using the Steam version of the game follow the directions below-

    1. Run the RTR VII installer like normal, changing the install path to xxxx/steam/steamapps/common/rome total war gold
    2. Ignore the launcher and short-cut prompts, they won't work
    3. Open Steam, right-click on Rome: Total War Gold in the My Games menu
    4. Select Properties
    5. Under the General tab select Set launch options ...
    6. Type in -mod:RTRVII -show_err without quotations and click OK
    7. Optional: If you want the RTR VII intro movie to display go to "...\steamapps\common\Rome Total War Gold\RTRVII\Data\fmv" and copy "RTRVII_Intro.wmv" this to "...\steamapps\common\Rome Total War Gold\bi\data\fmv" and rename the movie "BI_Intro_640x480.wmv" after making a backup of the old file. This is the only part of the mod that cannot be in the modfolder.
    8. Launch Rome: Total War Gold by double-clicking it in the My Games menu
    9. Select Barbarian Invasion from the two-choice list and Launch.

    RTR VII Patch Gold
For the latest version of RTR VII you should also download and install the RTRVII Patch Gold:

To install this patch, place the self-extracting archive in the RTW Directory in which your RTRVII folder is located (e.g. Program Files/The Creative Assembly/Rome - Total War) and extract it. It will ask you if you want to replace files and merge folders; say yes to all (if it doesn't ask you, you probably haven't installed the patch correctly).

Patch Gold includes all fixes and updates from Patch 1, 2, 3 and the Hotfixes, so you won't need to install these in order to get an up-to-date version of RTR VII.

    Download Mirrors:

    Mirror 1:GAMEFRONT
    Mirror 2:DEPOSITFILES
    Mirror 3:MediaFire

Please note that this patch is not save game compatible.

    Known issues

    • It has been reported that users of Norton Antivirus have been experiencing problems in that Norton has been deleting the RTRVII download file due to its "low reputation"! As more people download the file the better its "reputation" becomes, so this problem should go away but in the meantime there is a way around it:
      - in your Norton internet security panel, select "settings"
      - scroll down to where it says "AntiVirus and SONAR exceptions" or something similar
      - here you can use "configure" to specify items that are to be excluded from scans, and Auto-Protect and SONAR detection.
      - Specify the folder to which you will be saving the installer
      - Download the installer to this folder.
    • In order to get RTRVII to you in a timely manner, we have taken the unprecedented step (for RTR) of releasing a campaign that is missing certain minor details, which we were not readily able to complete. These omissions will not affect the game's overall running but it does mean that you will come across missing building and unit descriptions, from time to time. We hope that these will not detract from your enjoyment and, be assured, they will be addressed in future patches.
    • "Unit Shaders" should be switched on to prevent an error less CTD that occurs with the Greek Hoplitai model on entering battle.
    • The RTR Launcher is known to give problems on some systems. If you encounter any simply use the standard Desktop icon to start the game.
    • Do not try and edit and save your RTRVII Preferences, using the RTR Launcher, until you have run the game at least once. This is required to create your RTRVII Preferences.txt file.
    • In order to activate the RTR main intro movie, go to RTW/RTRVII/Data/fmv and copy the 'RTRVII_intro'. Then go to RTW/BI/Data/fmv and paste the RTR intro into that map. Finally, delete the BI intro and then rename the RTR intro, calling it 'BI_Intro_640x480'. When you now launch the game, you'll see the RTR main intro appear.
    • After the opening battles, playing as some factions you might encounter a Fog of War problem. This can be solved easily by opening the console (hit the '`' key below 'esc') and typing 'toggle_fow'. If this doesn't work for you, please post it in the bugs & issues thread and we'll see what we can do to solve it!

Congratulations to the RTR VII team!

It's been a long time coming but it's finally here (just installing now!). I'm up to my neck in dissertation at the moment so I'll have to wait to start a grand campaign. But I'm going to have a bit of fun with custom battles.

HUGE THANK YOU to all involved
Thank you to all of the RTR Team.

Yes, those instructions were written for FOE. Replace any reference to FOE with RTRVII and you should be OK.
