I do not know if this question has already been answered. My game CTD almost every time I try to do battle. I can play the campaign just fine and autoresolve battles. Any suggestion or answer is much appreciated.
This mod yells for mtw2 and it's descent campaign AI .
But besides that it's one of the Best RTW mods i played and the best mod considering Iron age greeks .

Fantastic visuals in this mod! The cities, vegetation and acropolises are really, really impressive! However the battle speed is just too quick. It needs to be slowed down- a lot! Mods like SPQR, Aristeia/Troy, the Fourth Age and several others (forgive my memory) have excellent battle lengths. Unit movement is slowed down to a very realistic level and I believe moral is boosted for longer combat. This really gives the player time to maneuver units around the battle line, flank the enemy, hammer and anvil, etc. But it does increase battlefield casualties.
If it's inevitable that some historical accuracy must be sacrificed, I'd prefer to see higher casualties with long battles as opposed to low casualties with quick battles.
I have edited the file of the mod so that the battles are now much longer, if I may.
Without changing the difference between units, just added defense +10 to all. Little tweak made macedonian cavalry stronger than the others, because that's how it has been historically.

To make the Persians more playable:
-Fewer provinces, it's incredibly annoying trying to manage the large number they start out with, also leads to...
-Rebellions and rioting impossible to avoid early on for whatever reason
-Start out with wayyy too many stacked armies and a general in every province, which leads to crippling upkeep
-Persian elite infantry dress is based on their ceremonial gear, see:

The Cities look great. Some of the best in game graphic editing I have seen in any mod. The map is a pretty good size too. Could arguably be a little expanded out to include Marsilla as a new faction and the coast of Spain, and arguably expand east to include the lavant and parts of Egypt.
As for a wish list, a bit more realism in general. The two biggest issues are the game save and load is wonky, and too many units have too low of a morale (even if they were historically well trained and disciplined). I think Kitsunegari maybe right, the Immortals in game may not have been what was worn in combat. The Tiara is missing. It was worn on the head and covered the face in shadow. The Immortals were elite heavy infantry first and bowmen second. So I do not think the skirmish attribute is needed for them. Though heavy is different for Persians than Greeks.
It would be nice to see some more Spanish troops for Carthage and some Numidian units. Also, will the Etruscans get a chariot unit? I ask because from a initial look, I do not see they can recruit one anywhere, yet they are described as having chariots within the faction description in game. The immortals infantry and cavalry should have very high morale. Probably highest for the Persian units. Yet one Immortal unit is only at 5, average or below average for most units in game. One of the immortal horse units is pretty low too. If faction units are better than poor or non existent or so it seems by the unit cards. Only some units do you see any morale quality attribute on the unit cards. Most high level top elite units do not have anything to say about morale. I should think that good or better should show up in the unit card description. This adds to the confusion with units in game.
I personally plan to raise all units by one morale number and a few elite by more and see how that plays out. I should think too, Persia is the most advanced faction. yet in many respects you do not get that impression. Armies and navies in general seem to have too low a movement range with respect to the map and its size. Some settlements should be pretty advanced with roads or better quality roads for example.
The acropolis look is fantastic in game. However some faction unique attributes seem to have been forgotten such as, Persia has a Botian League construction, not a Persian one.
It would be nice to see something a bit more expansive or unique for Illyria, maybe even making it one specific tribe with a few more unique type units. Types of pirates would be a good unit type to include.
Etruria should be pretty advanced. Probably better than it starts out at in game. It had been around for 500 years or more by this time. Persia, while fairly new as a empire, has been around for 50 years and is pretty advanced too. I have to agree with some of the other posts, namely, that Persia should get some units at 0 turns or more money or both, to reflect the huge some 3/4ths plus of the empire not included on the map. If for no other reason. Likewise, Carthage maybe should deserve a few similar bonuses since much of its land or at least land it expanded to, is also not included.
Not to knock the Egyptian unit, but why does it have such a low discipline? Egypt has a longer stronger military tradition than any faction in the game. It should have some good troops and if only one is in game should that not reflect that?
I wonder about the merc availability. Some factions would no doubt have such forces available, some might but at smaller sizes or higher prices or both given for example, they would be further from where the units would be historically hired from or living in. Carthage should probably in all honesty, have the richest pool of mercenaries and perhaps either the best trained disciplined mercs, or the cheapest mercs, though I lean toward the former. It might make more sense if a merc building expanded merc availability to include one or two map places beyond where map tile the building is constructed in. If the map could or would be expanded a tad more or more factions added you could add a Gallic one to italy and or aequians or samnites or Campaignians or so on.
I think more could definitely be done to the Italian province and make that a much much more interesting part of the map.

Frankly the mod has implemented for all hoplites a formation that has annoying animation and annoying outlook. The phalanx animation has been greatly improved with animation mods but this was taken out of the mod. I increased the battle duration with my mod but frankly the hoplite formation itself keeps making the mod unplayable for me. I found where the mistake is in the export_descr_units and corrected it, plus assigning new animation. Alas a mistake occurred with the export_descr_unit and although it maybe just a letter I missed somewhere, I can't find it-it's so big and I don't have the nerve. My advice is to copy out a nice export descr unit setting for the phalanx /reintroducing it for all hoplite units/ and make a new export_descr_unit for your mod. Without this the current formation looks like line infantry from Napoleonic era who charges breaks and disperses before you finished your zoom with the mouse to see what's happening. It's completely crappy.
most of the team has gone awol or are busy abroad fighting the ragheads (afghanistan or iraq) or on naval petrol have only seen two on here recently and one of them has just left for Afghanistan as for the greek members i aint hered anything from them in absolutley ages
Does anyone else notice many spears seem to be missing the texture? And to the person that emailed me a bit ago, I finished editing a unit file. I still may tweak medium range units more however. Nonetheless, it plays better now and more realistically. Not a great deal but enough to be far less haphazard, frustrating, and luck of the draw. Strategy now has some fairly significant impact than before.

didnt the scouts for the spartan army fight with swords? occasionally a spear. just wondering. love the campaign, your cities look prettier than any rome total war mod i've played. kudos to you. and this mod could be the #1 mod online, if the battle was more even. make them like roma surrectum 2, but not as long stamina, and make it where spartans never retreat. great mod, but definately fix the battles, they're way to easy, and short and no fun.
oh an as for the black Thespian he may be done i sent the idea to Jarlaxe a while ago but no idea why he aint on the first version may be on 2nd one when everyone has finished tour of duty and Greek financial crisis issues
