I gather it isn't supposed to show "patch 0.85" folder inside the data folder. It seems like I am following all of the directions though

there are files inside of the patch folder yes?
copy those files and paste them into CATW's data folder...all should be well if you do that. I took it as a given that you knew there were files inside of that folder.
Anyway those are the files I'm talking about, its rather simple and you will laugh when you realize how easy it was to install the patch or any mod patch.

It's like this, , when I add " -mod:catw" on the end of the line in target of the RTW exe shortcut it won't accept it. BTW I have two installations of RTW so I guess it has something to do with that. Any help?
You need to direct it to the folder you have both RTW & CATW installed in. The target line on your shortcut should look something like
"C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -mod:catw -show_err -nm
Except my operating system is windows xp which I play and mod on. So yours is likely windows 7 or 8 and x86 and perhaps in a different location. So you will need to navigate through your drive&program files to find the RTW installation with the CATW folder.

I was mistakenly putting the sufix in target line inside quotation marks. It works well now. Thanks!
A error message shows when I click the desktop icon, which says "generico error. could not read file Data/descr_lightning.txt"
My rome is freshly installed, so I take apart issues related to that, could it be a bad mod installation?
Edit: I installed the patch, too, and the descr_strat.txt file attached to the first post
2nd edit: fool of me, I was wrongly starting the game in other folder, disregard this! I want to play this mod so badly!

Mainly because most of us can't get it going i think..theres a big problem with getting the exec to work i my self have followed the directions for editing the existing RT exec but no dice it was a pity the mod couldn't install its own or set itself up by useing the existing ones...without us haveing to tinker with it...
I dunno either.
Honestly when I first started playing mods the shortcut was confusing at first but I followed the instructions exactly and all was well.
It's pretty simple
#1 Go to RTW folder.
#2 Right click exe and say 'send to desktop' create shortcut.
#3 Go to desktop and right click shortcut then select properties.
#4 Copy what needs to be added in ( -nm -show_err -mod:catw)
#5 Paste it one space after the last quotation mark in target e.g. "K:\Games\Total War\RTW\RomeTW-BI.exe" (turns into) "K:\Games\Total War\RTW\RomeTW-BI.exe" -nm -show_err -mod:catw
Done.
It's very easy... I apologize if it sounds rude but I would rather not spend a few days of my time creating a launcher for people who can't be bothered to do a minute of work.

And i appreciate you giveing us the feedback but what makes you think we are being lazy...the instructions are simple they are just not working and i don't want to sound rude either but if you can't be bothered helping out then don't, just trying to get some info is all...
Well now lets be calm and not start an argument, perhapsI can be of some service, mav61 some questions;
1. Are you using steam?
2. Do you have any other mods installed that mightinterfere with this mod
3. What game are you running it on, are you usingRTW or Alex
4. Did you install in a different folder?
Hm, shouldn't be any problems, how odd, which site did you download the mod from. moddb, strategy informer, the mods website?
Contrary to what seems to be a popular belief a mod isn't a whole new game. It's simply a folder. (however some are not mod foldered) Anyway if you correctly direct the executable to the correct folder there should not be any problems. It's simply a matter of doing it right.
Can you take a screen capture of the target line in the properties of your shortcut for CATW? After that take a screen capture of the current location of the mod/RTW.
