@Justme, while I agree with almost all you had to say, I do think recruitment times should be much greater, to put a stop to stack spamming. But would be very interested to see what you can do about the population
stack spamming won't happen if the AI is faced with bankruptcyThe trick is to make unit recruitment and upkeep costly, not take an age to complete. The AI is then awarded a small bonus through money scripts, so that it will always have a few more units available than the player. If you make recruitment take too long, the challenge factor will hit zero as soon as you kill off the AIs best units: the AI won't recruit any elites (or at least won't have time to do so), it will spam a bunch of low-q stacks that you'll easily obliterate and you'll easily make AI factions extinct - it doesn't make for much of a thrilling campaign
As for the population - I may try a little something if I feel like it; in case I don't have time, here's the idea
-in descr_regions you set land fertility to as low a number as possible for all settlements, except those that historically did become great cities - even for these, you keep the base growth rate to about 0.5-1%
-in EDB you practically kill all pop growth bonuses from buildings, except from farms - even then, you keep it at +2/+3 max and limit the more advanced farms to said great cities (or wherever there's substantial grain production, eg Thessaly, Sicily, etc)
-in descr_strat you demote all settlements to town level (ie less than 2000 citizens), except the great cities again which may start as large towns (less than 6000 citizens, I suggest around 3000-4000).
If all goes well, the smaller cities will remain small for a *long* time to come, only being able to expand up to a certain level (probably never past large town). The great cities will also have trouble expanding quickly, unless through enslavement of smaller cities (which might plausibly be considered that it causes an indirect increase of citizenship in the city state, as there's more wealth to be distributed among the city's inhabitants, allowing members of the lower class to meet the requirements for hoplite service) - for better or worse, only a handful of cities will ever become metropolises that way...
-of course one then would have to move the levy units from the EDB into the descr_mercenaries.txt, declaring mercenary recruitment regions to match
When you put like that sounds reasonable, I think I might re-do my changes. I won't do 0 turn- perhaps stick to 1 for basic hoplites, more for elites, more again for Spartans. But concentrate on recruitment costs and the relation to population. And continue with the other changes I was making.
another small suggestion - adjust the number of troops in a hoplite phalanx unit to 50 in the EDU and use this number as a base to adjust the number of troops for the other units. At huge unit size, this will give you 200 hoplites in your phalanx, which I feel is a realistic number for a hoplite contingent for the era (if it could go up to 300 it would be even better)
Also, I just realized that the idea I had about controlling population levels by adjusting fertility in the descr_regions.txt is currently impossible to implement - you have to delete the map.rwm and let the game re-generate it, but as I already reported in the bug thread, there's some problem with the map files of hegemonia and the re-generated map.rwm just kicks you back to the menu.![]()
at first I must to thank all for yours suggestions and help for this mod...
please everyone summary your posts into one with everything you said before, this make us to focus and try to make some things better

For very realistic battles I would increase hp as a base to 2 for all non-professional units 3 for professional units and 4-5 for elite units also tweak the morale using impetuous and disciplined...the lethality rate also changes things. These suggestions are all based upon the realistic battles created by Arthurian Total War developers...(one of the best gameplay experiences imo)
Totally x2!!
I recently started playing ATW again, and it's definately the toughest mod I've played.
Some of the great feats:
-very fragile economies (you'll probably go red after 1-2 turns, and will need to expand very quickly with as little losses as possible to get back in positive numbers). This also makes it impossible to train too many units.
-very low populations. I once retrained 4-5 units and found my capital almost competely depopulated
This means you won't be able to train troops all the time (rather on the contrary), so it really matters that you fight every single battle by hand and the life of every single soldier you have, matters. (lose one big battle and your empire might be conquered a few turns later)
Also, they have higher recruiting times (2-4 turns), but the higher a city is upgraded, the lower these will become. So to train a unit of 120 archers in a 800 pop village would f.ex. take 3 turns, but only 2 turns once it's a city with 2500 pop or so.
I want to ask to ask the team if i can upload the the 3 *.txt files ( descr_formation_ai.txt, export_descr unit.txt and descr_model_battle.txt ) and the animations from SigniferOne&39s ...(thanx man)...not the models ...
The battles r still quick, i like this, and has the hegemonia team say the shield wall formation has problems..espesial to siege...
I must say again i have use parts from this mods Age of darkness 2, Roma surrectum 2, Variag and of course Hegemonia
Some new pics, i have use the textures from hegemonia

Okay, maybe it's because I haven't been able to play Heg because of computer trouble, but I can't really see what the difference other than the new Perioikoi face that I said I didn't care for is.
Is that positive enough for you? Because it sounds pretty neutral, rather than positive, to me.

You think you`ll get permission to use empio`s model parts publicly? I`d be surprised. Anyway, good job on what you`ve done so far!
Looks like one of empio`s aod2 roman faces if I`m not mistaking.I can't say I care for the new face on the Perioikoi.
You`d certainly be in a better position to judge what you see. That aside, no, someone doing a single complete mod would indeed be entitled to give an opinion, but having gone through this would have more sympathy towards other modders and be less likely to take such a liberal attitude towards their work.
So because I can't make a better face, I'm required to like it? All right, if you want, I'll lie about it then.
I absolutely love the face. It's the most beautiful face I've ever seen. I'm going to dump my girlfriend because she's a hag compared to it, then I'm going to create a life-sized clay man, replicate that face to the minutest detail, and spend the rest of my days on this earth making love to said clay man each and every night because it's so beautiful.
Is that better?![]()
