    Default Post marian reforms?

Since EB achieved a way to get multiple "reforms" for different factions, wouldn't it be good if XGM made use of that feature too?

We could have xanthippus reform for carthaginians, kataphract reform for hellenics and imperial reforms for romans, barbarians and parthians moving late game towards BI style...

What do you think about it?

The Europa Barbarorum mod somehow managed to create different reforms other than the marian one, I'm still trying to understand how they managed to do that but looks like it's definitely possible...

I haven't devled into EB to see how they did it, but one method is to make post-reform units dependent on the existence of a special building, and then use a script to spawn that building in every settlement (or at least every settlement where the post-reform units should be recruitable). From a technical point of view this is not hard to do, although writing the scripts might take a fair bit of grunt work, seeing as they would need to deal with every region on two maps.

Xanthippus reorganised the Carthaginian army in the first Punic War, so that would be right near the start of the game period. It might add some realism but would not do much for gameplay.

A late Roman reform would require a lot of work (adding an entirely new set of units) and it would either have to be placed at an unhistorical date, or it would have to be placed very late in the game, when most people would have already well and truely won. Seems like a lot of work for units that many people will never get to use.

A cataphract reform might be interesting, although it would be unrealistic. The Greeks were using Cataphracts before the start of the game period, while the Romans did not adopt them until well after the end of the game period.

If you are interested in multiple reforms, there are a couple of mods that have done them for RTR too. These mods are the RomeFaction Mod (which readds the Senate and 3 roman factions) and RomeLegions Mod both made by Snake IV. In these mods you have two roman reforms (Marius and Imperial) and have also roman civil war set by script.
Anyway the real problem both with EB and RTR mods is that these reforms are set to happen at a FIXED date, no more randomly. I read that the EB devs are trying to change this in future versions.
Anyway, I think that multiple reforms (or some other event set by script asa civil wars) are one of the best way to make this game more interesting in the long run.

A scripted civil war might be interesting - although with all those Praetorians the Republicans might actually win.

Well, it would be interesting to introduce the BI loyalty setting for that so if as roman you start to grow large your generals could "defect" to the senate, so that you will have to keep your best generals on the defensive or risk them to turn to spqr with a full stack army...
The unified rome version could also add "republican rebels" (with premarian units or some BI style ones like the auxilia palatina) and another emerging faction (maybe a mercenary revolt?), there are dozens of open possibilities with some imagination... Epirus/Illiria or galatia wouldn't also be a bad choice...
