    I just downloaded it again, after not playing for some time and I was severely disappointed by seeing Johann Josef von Radetz turn out to be a vanilla general. How could I correct this?

    Are there any planned updates for this modification? It would be fantastic if some of the portraits could be tweaked and some new ones added. I think the Creative Assembly's lack of realistic portraits brings the game's quality down in my opinion, and this boosts it straight back up.

    As for the Italian recruitment, I haven't figured out how to get more than four generals. Sorry, wish I could help.

    I think my customised portrait of Johann Josef von Radetz will only appear in French campaign... the allies startpos file didn't have an entry of this general in recruitment list so I couldn't designate a custom portrait for him in the Coalition campaign. It's most likely that Radetz is randomly generated ingame

    As much as I wish to continue modding it appears I'll have to take an extended break due to real life works. My Christmas schedule is packed full... But it's been a real pleasure working on this fun mod

    It was mentioned earlier that it is possible to merge this with a mod's Startpos.erf so that the portraits can be used in overhauls. I've just got Europe in Conflict 2.0 and am totally clueless as to how I'd go about this merge. Any help would be much appreciated!

    Open the startpos with an editor, go in CAMPAIGN_ENV\CAMPAIGN_MODEL\WORLD\FACTION_ARRAY\

    Get the factions you want to change, go in CHARACTER_ARRAY and you will see for each of them a path to the portraits you need to use (in CHARACTER_DETAILS), for instance ui/portraits/custom/cards/ney.tga

    I *think* I'm seeing the right screen, but have no idea what to change them to. Apologies for being awkward, but I've never used to ERF editor before and the majority of this is just a jumble of charts and semi-leigble sentences!

    Go in UO/Portrait/Custom

    you will find the names there

    In light of continual public interest, I've resumed my portraits works, this time for the awesome MoE mod. I shall return to update on Special Portraits (Carlos of Spain + other historic characters) once my MoE work's complete. Stay tuned.

I would like to ask how I merge the 'startpos' scripting you created for the portraits with another startpos modification that I am using, so that I do not have to sacrifice one for the other. I am currently switching between your portrait modification and another Bourbon Restoration modification.

    Sadly I haven't used any other startpos. But I can reveal how to change portraits - it's really easy

    1. download esf editor

    2. Open esf editor, navigate to mp_eur_campaign folder





    3. In mp_eur_campaign folder, open startpos



    4. Navigate down the list as shown in the screenshot below



    5. Open Faction_Array

    As we can see, this Faction_Array is FRANCE.



    6. While still in this (French) Faction_Array, click on Faction,

    then go to character_array (fonts in grey colour in the screenshot above)

    7. Inside character_array, we see this long list of CHARACTER_ARRAY. Each of them are French generals, ministers or characters that appears in campaign.


    8. To find out who's who, open a CHARATER_ARRAY, then click on CAMPAIGN_LOCALISATION to find out the person's name

    This guy's obviously General/Marshal Michel Ney

    9. Click on PORTRAIT_DETAILS

    All the information in Value Column (i.e. first column) are all we need to make sure Ney has the portrait that we want.

    It would be better to transfer information from my portrait startpos into any other startpos they wish (copy and paste), because my startpos only change portraits, while other startpos like the Bourbon restoration are far more complex, involving new character, new faction and new positionings etc.

    Oh and remember to save often, ESF editor has defects and can be unstable just like PFM. I've a love-hate relationship with this tool

    Thankyou very much for the tutorials, they've been very helpful; I'm starting the process of copy-pasting everything across now. A bit unfortunate that a campaign restart is required to benefit, but I guess the term "suffer for your art" is quite appropriate!
