Having spent the good part of his adult life as an unremarkable Senator, casting his vote in support of greater men. He has only recently discovered the inner strength to pursue his own convictions after the death of his wife; his trusted companion for 34 years. His loss is evident, he suffers from bouts of melancholy from time to time, an inconsolable ailment that leaves him without sleep for weeks. The single bright spot in his life that keeps him moving is his two children. And as such his political motives are based around providing a stable future for his children.
