Well I'm sure their European Cup win put a smug smile on their faces and they lost to Liverpool (x3), Arsenal, City, Leverkusen & Napoli.

I think that's a very apt comparison. The lifesize Barbie being ~~Torres~~ Di Matteo.

Soo-o… the two Manchester sides qualify for the CL group stages. Chelsea steal Totnam's place… and do they enter in the group phase or at the qualifying round? Do they get placed above or below Arsenal?

I heard Arsenal has to qualify now, so I guess Chelsea is directly qualified.

Chelsea won so qualify immediately, Arsenal too while Spurs drop down to the Europa. I think.

There was a big discussion on this over at the SI forums (where single club threads reach 10-15k posts a season) a month or so back, it was pretty much confirmed Chelsea winning the CL and finishing out of the CL places in the league would not effect 3rd place's automatic spot. Well as confirmed as it can be without an official post from UEFA. I'll link the evidence if I can dig it up.

It won't, so Arsenal will get through to the group stage. Spurs lose their qualification spot so drop to the Europa.

Yeah you are right. The German commentator said Arsenal would have to qualify (mentioned it when he also said that Tottenham would be out), but he was wrong.

Chelsea win the European Cup so they enter at the group stage.
Arsenal finish third so they too enter at the group stage along with the Manchester Clubs.
Because of Chelsea's victory England lose their fourth spot which would have put Spurs into the third qualifying round, instead they drop down into the Europa League (not sure where though).
