Default Failed to find Steam Error

I've seen other users with similar problems, but I'm still unable to fix mine.

I have the Steam version of Rome: Total War Gold Edition on my computer. I wish to install Rome: Total Realism VII: The Fate of Empires on my computer, but I am encountering trouble.

I installed the RTR VII: FOE mod into the RTW file on SteamApps, and the download went normally. Everything seems to have installed correctly. However, when I try to launch the game via the RTR desktop shortcut, I get a "Failed to find Steam" error. Then a mysterious internet window opens up and sends me to steampowered.com. I believe I have to modify the launch options in Steam, but so far all my attempts at fixing the problem have failed.

My operating system is Windows Vista, Rome:Total War is the Steam version as opposed to the store-bought game, and I would really appreciate any help. This is why I always prefer to buy the retail version of computer games.....

Simple just open up your steam and go to your library, right click on rome and then click on properties. Then go on launch options and put this in "-mod:FOE" w/out the quotes (then click ok), and your done. So now just run RTW like you normally would and it'll run FOE. Now whenever you want to switch back to vanilla RTW just delete the "-mod:FOE" and you'll switch back . (P.S the desktop shortcut does not work so you have to launch it from steam)

Maybe this, from our FAQ's will be of some help:

    10) How can I play RTR with Steam?

    1. Run the FoE installer like normal, changing the install path to xxxx/steam/steamapps/common/rome total war gold
    2. Ignore the launcher and short-cut prompts, they won't work
    3. Open Steam, right-click on Rome: Total War Gold in the My Games menu
    4. Select Properties
    5. Under the General tab select Set launch options ...
    6. Type in -mod:FOE -show_err -nm without quotations and click OK
    7. Launch Rome: Total War Gold by double-clicking it in the My Games menu
    8. Select Barbarian Invasion from the two-choice list and Launch.
Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for your help guys! I have since solved the problem and am able to play the game. Although I do have one more question about the game.

I've been playing as S.P.Q.R. and naturally, I'm at war with Phyrrus and his epirote army. However, from time to time (usually right before I assault some besieged city) a ceasfire is declaired. I've never even negotiated a peace treaty, much less agree to one. However, every now-and-again the war concludes without warning and any seige I may be conducting is lifted. I simply declair war on them right away, and then another cesefire occurs the next turn. I'm confused. Is this a bug, or is there some aspect to the game I'm oblivious to? Once again, any info/help would be appreciated.

It's a standard RTW thing, and nothing to do with FOE, and I'm afraid that there is nothing we can do about it. I think it runs something like this: if someone you are allied to concludes a treaty with your enemy then you become automatically at peace with them as well!

Ahhh. That makes sense. Yeah I think I remeber it happening a couple times in the vanilla version of RTW.

Thanks for your help. I really needed it. I must say, the Rome Total Realism games are by far the most well-developed mods for any game I've ever played. Very impressive.
