    Icon3 Historical RTW Vanilla v1.5

Even though I have a grand Idea in "Roma Nova" I don't have the experience, team and support to even begin it. Right now I want that thread to be a "brainstorming thread" so i encourage all who view this to view that as well.
I do know WHAT IS possible at this time however and that is a more Historic Vanilla RTW v1.5

here is what I don't like about vanilla:

    1. 4 Roman Factions (Do I really need to go into detail here?)
    2. Egypt as depicted as a "Pharoahonic" People. They need to be greek
    3. Mercenaries being "green" wouldnt we want them to be the same color as the faction that uses them?
    4. Weak ai morale on battlefield.
    5. Certain factions dominate others ex: egypt over seleucids, britons over germans
    6. I HATE rebel settlements. I believe that all settlements should be controlled by a certain faction.
    7. Barbarian Factions as portrayed as ugly, stupid brutes. "Gaul Smash!"

I cannot think of anything else. Please add and suggest your dislikes!!

Some of you may think "Well why doesn't he get RTR or THS?"

Reason is there is alot that I do like about vanilla like this

    1. I like the Senate giving missions. (It gives initiative if you don't know what to do, and you get cool rewards)
    2. I actually don't mind the "faction colors" to me it adds definition and an identity to the faction.
    3. I don't know how to really explain it, but I just love the overall feel the game gives me. It's the funnest game to play for me.
    4. I like the original skins. Sometimes mod's skins look to computerized. Vanillas skins are good.

    So my proposal is this:

Being able to mod vanilla so it is more historic and a little more challenging.
add more cities to reach the city hard code limit
add more units to meet unit unit hard code limit
keep original map (only map changes should be for adding regions/cities)
Do a complete change of Brutii and Scipii into Illyrians and Nabataean Kingdom
completely change egypt into Ptolemaic empire (greek)
make it so mercenaries are not green
rebels would only be brigands, pirates or revolts
get rid of fantasy units (arcani, pigs, wardogs?, screeching women)
edit current units and add new units to factions so they are more historic but still have vanilla feel
combine all four roman families into one. (i think this would be cool) and create separate families for Illyrians & Nabataean Kingdom
If changing Faction Symbols ex: Macedon keep the vanilla look
Basic Name Changes, Spanish to Iberians etc
    make ai morale stronger
make the domination factor dissapear for briton/egypt
starts in 280 B.C. with Greeks controlling southern Italy
and get rid of Themiskyra!!!!! I hate that place and the amazon chariots haha

please any suggestions will be appreciated this is open to discussion, votes, debates, opinions and history!! im decent at coding etc. and this should not be too hard!! thanks

    Nice,but remember,keep it modfolderd.

    And click here please...

Also,I noticed something....you whant to remove arcani, pigs, wardogs and screeching women? Why?

    1. Arcani - OK,they are ussles anyway...
    2. Pigs - Why everyone in the world thinks pigs are unhistorical???Romans used Pigs against Pyrrhus elephants.
    3. Wardogs - Romans indded trained wardogs, but only in Brittaina,so maybe making a new seacret reasorce called Brittaina and make them only availeble in there...

I shouldn't hit the hardcode limit, game (can) get laggy if you do that. The engine isn't build for too big stuff.
Use Mundus_Magnus or Europe 270 BC.
Why a Nabateen kingdom? thats kinda unhistorical. BTW, they will be eaten alive by the Seleucids and Ptolemaics. Another Germanic faction instead.
Yes. No Arcani, pigs, wardogs, screeching women, head hurlers, gladiators, bull warriors, etc.

If i were you, i should aim somewhat higher, and make more clear what you want to do. Maybe a complete overhaul of all factions?

The Nabataeans were around back then.. I would give them Petra, Bostra and Possibly Dumatha.. However i would upgrade them. Especially Petra. Petra will be a city with stone walls that way if attacked they have a good chance. Plus I believe it would be a challenge for the player. what is Mundus_Magna or Europe 270 B.C.? any threads for those? and as to hardcoding, i guess i wont take it to the limit but i do want to add/ take away from units and add more cities..

thanks for the feedback.. i will add to the cities list ASAP

Mundus Magnus is a large map, used in many other mods, such as XGM, XC and EB

first Romancamp on the site of batavodurum was founded around 15 b.c., batavodurum was burned down in 69 AD by Julius Civilus and the batavian revolution. After that a new city was built nearby called Ulpia Noviomagus Batavorum

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    p.s. add Coriovallum

Is Batavordum still owned by Germans before that? and i'll look it up.

P.S. I need listings or maps of ancient german settlements.. Vicus Gothi etc is really silly

also i dont mind the mundus magnus map but it would mean having to add another faction i.e. Bactria and i wont be able to as even though the senate wont have any cities/armies it will still be present through the senate missions etc.. plus does the Mundus Magnus have a vanilla look to it?

Londinium Roman City 43 A.D. not sure where you got that from I always thought it was around as a town, just under a different name
Deva Roman Fort 70's A.D. was most definitely a town under the Deceangli before the Romans invaded Britain.
Eboracum Roman Fort 95 A.D. was a Brigantine town, before Roman occupation.
Tara Never Existed?? did most definitely exist. clickedy-click
    Mogontiacum Roman City 13 B.C.
Batavordum - Germans Roman City 69 A.D. lolIsuck explained, but I think I read somewhere it used to be a military gathering point for the batavians before the Romans came along

As for the map part, I've been working on a map of my own, it sticks with the vanilla map (mostly, sometimes changes were needed to put certain cities in) but adds a whole bunch of regions to it.
It's far from done but I could show you a WIP

Irishguy - the resources i used were wikipedia and a book by Michael Grant called A Guide To The Ancient World. Both referred the British Cities as Roman Settlements or forts with no mention to prior Native Settlement.. However I believe you as it seems (judging by your name) that you have more of a first hand knowledge of the history there.. so regarding settlement names, is that what they were referred to when Rome came? Or are they "Romanized"? Remember i'm trying to make it as historically as possible. Also can you list any websites that I could continue my research? Its gonna be tough when I get into Germany, Thrace and Scythia haha. I don't want Vicus' or Campus' if I can help it

    thanks for the help

ps please show me the WIP maybe some screen shots?? if i like it i might wanna pursue it

@Ahowl, it's very hard to find old Germanic/Celtic names of settlements, that's why most names are in Latin.
For the Low Countries (Netherlands, Belgium, Lux) I would suggest Aduatuca and/or Coriovallum, maybe Tournai too (I thought it was Tournai, forgot the Roman name)

    Roman, of course.
    You can also use other words to make it a little more interesting;
    oppidum
    vicus
    colonia
    tribus
    locus
    etc.

never use urbs [urbis] though, that was only used for Rome itself. used in the same way as "going into town"
