Same error as in post #1213, but it's not fatal.

Provide a trace log, that might help.

I think it's fatal. I had that issue and it went away when I put him in the family tree.

Something related to it is most likely fatal - the error message in it's generic form does not indicate it. You will get it for teutonic factions if you don't have a family tree in descr_strat or if you designate a heir that is not in the family tree. None of which is fatal as such.

Well that log is now gone, as I've tried to play the game since, but I have a new error. I started a Denmark campaign, compiled my forces together, and attacked the East Anglian capital (some village, oddly). My graphics settings are slightly above the middle I'd say, unit size is normal and detail is high but most everything else is low. I fought this battle fine, absolutely zero lag unless I zoomed in on a huge fight. I finish the battle, click the okay button to say I won, and the game starts loading... and CTDs. The error message says that I've encountered a fatal graphics error and should try setting my graphics settings lower before a battle. I've never gotten that before, even in TATW with maxed out settings (the game runs terribly, 1 or 2 FPS, as my PC is crap, but it didn't crash), and even if it's true, why did it let me fight the whole battle with no lag before crashing? This is an excellent mod and even as a beta way better done than most finished products, but it's unplayable with these errors.

EDIT: I may have installed the music submod that caused a previous poster to have the same issue, I can't remember, I'll try reinstalling and see if my CTDs go away.

What could that something be and how could I fix it? I didn't have that problem until I changed the EDU and EDB. I don't know how modifying those files would affect descr_strat. Or maybe I changed descr_strat too, but I didn't touch the family trees. But these guys haven't changed anything and they're still getting crashes.

Ive followed every set of steps I could find. I really want to hack some up with axes as vikings. If anybody would be kind enough to help me with getting this to work you would rock. please, please, please help!

I use steam and I used the Kindoms app and linked last kingdom to that. I start the launcher, see last kingdoms as a selection, pick it, error pops up, game crashes. Please help =]

Steam just updated M2TW. It runs completely different now. The only (TOS-approved) way I know of now to start mods with Steam is to rename one of the kingdoms campaigns to something else, rename Last_Kingdom to that kingdoms campaign, and start the kingdoms campaign through Steam. IIRC the menu will be vanilla-ish, but the rest of the mod should be fine. Now, on my own little issues, I reinstalled the mod, no submods, not even the heir crown sub mod, and now everything seems to be fine, turn 20ish on the Danes, no crashes.

I still seem confused. Ill give you the instructions I followed and maybe you can help me figure it out from there.

    "
    Installation Instructions:

    Kingdoms expansion 1.05 is needed.

    1. Download « Last_Kingdom.7z » here : Moddb.com
    2. Open « Last_Kingdom.7z » with Winrar and extract all the files into your desktop
    3. Then launch mod installation by double-clicking onr « Last Kingdom 3.05.exe ». Do not worry about files « Last Kingdom 3.05.DO1 » and « Last Kingdom 3.05.DO2 ». By sure to install the mod into your repertory « Medieval II Total War ».
    4. Then, launch Patch installation by double-clicking on « Last Kingdom Patch 3.06.exe ». By sure to install the mod into your repertory « Medieval II Total War ».
    5. Then, open archive « 20121109 - tlK - historic_event - quick fix.zip » with Winrar and extract the two files into « Medieval II Total War/mods/Last_Kingdom/data/text ».
    6. Play with the new shortcut that the installer has created automatically on your desktop. "

Steam Start - either of the methods below work

Method 1 Make copy of medieval2.exe
    Rename to kingdoms.exe
Start mods through regular BAT file

Method 2 Change BAT file (right click file, choose 'edit'):: replace kingdoms.exe entry part with medieval2.exe
Start mods through regular BAT file

Steam has just updated Medieval 2 Total War and has removed the Kingdoms tab. As a result I have lost the steam launch options code. Unfortunately I can not find the steam launch option code in the support threads any longer. Would anyone remember the code which needs to be entered which will allow me to launch The Last Kingdom mod from Steam?

No code needed - check this resource.

Or do it how I described in the previous post.

Thank the Gods and you of course Gigantus. War may now continue. :-)

By any chance have you had any luck with setting up launching options in Steam to be able to continue launching Last Kingdom from the M2TW tab within the Steam interface?

Greatly appreciate all you help, you really have saved me.

    Cheers,

    Check this as well:
    Universal batch file

Interesting, I wasn't aware that the new .exe allowed one to launch mods through the normal batch files.

having issues with "baptized normans" launching. the desktop icon when clicked opens a prompt stating "the item 'baptized_normans.bat' that is a shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly" i tried clicking the baptized_normans.bat in the last kingdom folder in the kingdoms mod directory an it says it cannot locate the kingdoms.exe file. im using a steam copy of kingdoms.

It has to do with the recent change in the steam version of the game. Edit the bat files by right clicking and choosing 'edit' - change 'kingdoms' to 'medieval2' and save.

I have encountered some issues while playing as Vestfold:

1- At the begging a pop up appears but the video screen is black I think it was about Hlafdan's legacy
2- When I have lots of buildings in a city I can't see them, I have to point below a building to select the bottom one
3- Odin shrine exp bonus doesn't stack with holmgag(name?) fields and archers don't get exp bonus from practice range (I have real combat sub mod installed, but was not sure if happened also in the vanilla mod.)
4- Skalds don't convert above 90%, is this intended?

hey I been carefully scanning through this thread and have seen couple issues related to problem I having. every time I am about to engage in a battle the game crashes. the odin help us alert comes up and that is that. now I installed correctly everything was working fine for good 20-25 turns. I have uninstalled and re installed with same effect. I admit I was trying to install another mod which involved unpacking files. had no idea how to do it and believe I messed up. could the experts please help cos this is brilliant brilliant mod

Most archers in this mod are classified as skirmishers, hence they will not get a bonus from the practice range buildings or archer guilds (assuming there were any of those in the mod).

Are you sure the experience bonuses don't stack? Maybe you miscounted. Always recruit and retrain units as the last thing you do before pressing the End Turn button in order to ensure the game doesn't screw up and it gives you the right experience bonuses.

Are you trying to convert a region solely with Skalds? I reduced their power, and the mod makes it so you can convert a region easily in the beginning, when the culture is almost exclusively alien, but then the conversion rate drops until conversion slows down dramatically, even if you have 20 Skalds there. There are diminishing returns on conversion. You have to build some conversion buildings and wait a while before you can get a high percentage of your own culture in a region. If you pack some Skalds in on top of the buildings, even better.
    ----------------------------------------

What mod did you try to install, and what did you do? You could always uninstall M2 entirely and try a fresh installation.

The mod I was trying to install called kingdom of the scots 3. I knew I had incorrectly installed it from the instructions given. The step i had done was unpacking the british isles folder. Now i dont even know what unpacking does and this is where i feel i went wrong I have since tried to go back on myself but nothing worked. I will now try uninstall followed by reinstall of the main game as suggested.
