Backing Everton, mainly because I love listening to the supporters whine about not spending any money for quality strikers. It warms my heart.
I think Swansea will stay up. Norwich have done the best of the summer signings but their squad may not click. But they pulled off a two great signings in vaughan and Johnson I think.
I am hoping Liverpool will gel together and mount a good top 4 challenge. They won't win the title this year because it just doesn't seem likely. We are creating a squad for the future and hopefully Aqua man will stay. There is no harm in having great depth.
We need a new left back as Johnson just doesn't cut it as a defender for me, his attacking credentials greatly outweigh his defensive ones. I think maybe give Insua one more go and keep on the look out for a good left back (which are hard to come by I feel). Up front Carroll will have supply after supply of crosses from Downing and Kuyt and Suarez will have the ground ball from Adam if he plays. Could be seeing Stevie G on the bench if the new players hit form from the go.
I think the table will look like this:
1. Chelsea
2. Manchester United
3. Manchester City
4. Liverpool
5. Arsenal
6. Everton/Tottenham (Spurs below if they lose Modric and don't replace him)
Relegated:
Wigan
Norwich
QPR (if they don't buy anyone)
How can anyone take Chelsea above the two Manchester teams?
Last season showed that the current Chelsea squad is finished. All teams have cycles and Chelsea ended one. Except they haven't made a single change to the team that struggled so badly this year. I struggle to see them getting any higher than 3rd, maybe worse depending on teams around them.
United must be favorites based on last season and their signings. They have one thing that can lose them the season, and that is the lack of Scholes. If they can get around that, I don't see much stopping them besides City.
1. United
2. City
3. Chelsea
4. Liverpool
5. Arsenal (if they lose Fabregas and Nasri)
6. Tottenham (if they keep Modric)

Chelsea are already looking to sign Pastore and Lukaku, who will bring some legs in that pensioners midfield/attack. I'd sell Lampard to Madrid, he's totally lost it, and the only reason to stay he has is his fiancé, but her show is a flop anyway. Let Ramires take that role instead of being stuck on the wing. Sign De Jong from City, that would be a superb bit of business, as he provides energy and mental and physical toughness. And then a winger like Carzola or Lennon. Then for me Chelsea are real contenders. All they have to do is sort out that grossly overrated and ageing midfield...
EDIT : Who do we think is going to win the sack race?
My view :
1. Warnock
2. Kean
3. Mancini
4. Pardew

Why Mancini? His only flaw is not being strict enough I feel.
He substituted Balotelli just because he tried a trick yesterday in a friendly! How is that not strict!
Because I don't see them improving. Maybe at the end of the season, he'll be sacked, so put him in 4th.

i do agree that Lampard is a shadow of his former self but i've grown a bit too attached to him and Terry as being the homegrown Chelsea old boys to even consider wanting them to go. he still has great vision and makes some beautiful short and long passes that end up leading to goal scoring opportunities. it's also noteworthy that Chelsea plummeted during the period that he was injured. it's not exactly 1+1 but one has to admit it was a factor.
If Chelsea want to keep him and want him to make an impact, he might be better off coming from the bench. His injury saw Chelsea's form dip, but every other player had a rough patch at the same time as that.
He provided an instant boost when he returned, but then it flatlined again. Perhaps a sub appearance in some matches is what Chelsea need?
Sack race?
1. Warnock
2. Roberto Martinez
3. Mancini (at the end of the season)
4. Villas Boas (Chelsea go through managers like there's no tomorrow.)

some people never left the schoolyard.
Oh Mario, will you ever grow up?
I think he thought the whistle was blown, but come on that's sheer jackass mentality there by him. Mancini did the right thing subbing him at once.
that's exactly why i will never have respect for players like him, C Ronaldo and Suarez, all very skilled but childlike mentalities and poor sportsmanship.
