Battle of Cut Knife?
I'd hate to see this thread go. Is it dead?
For Queen and Country, lads!! Queen Victoria that is!
Correct.
The image is propaganda. The Canadian infantry were actually panicking and entirely encircled. Chief PoundMaker allowed them to retreat and the Canadian commander was smart enough to take the opportunity. It's basically Little Bighorn but the guy knew when to retreat and wasn't facing a leader who wanted a massacre.
What, no rep?? If nothing else a bit of rep alerts me that I have a posting due (I'm not in the forums every day atm - just a quick peruse). This one's nothing difficult, let's get this thread going again.
Battle of Valmy, as Napoleon said "not even I would have wanted to be up on that ridge"
Yes, Valmy, the first battle and victory for the Army of France after the revolution proved the Republic to be a viable concern.
It'll be a while before I can rep Lord Oda again, could someone get that for me please? Thanks.
Siege of Jerusalem, 1187, after Hattin?
That's from Kingdom of Heaven, right?
A bit tricky, since nobody knows the name of the siege (shock!), so just tell me the name of the person injured and lying on the ground.
Not sure if Crisis of the Third Century or Byzantium.
It should be Roman emperor Gallienus
Yup that's Gallienus. After the Gallic Empire broke away from the Roman Empire in the Crisis of the Third Century, Gallienus besieged Postumus, the Emperor of the Gallic Empire, in an unnamed city, and was severely wounded. None of the sources available today contain the name of the city.
Unfortunately I am no way near 25 posts, so would someone mind giving rep to Grymloq?
Thanks, anyone can go next
Haven't double checked this one, hope it's factual:
Hey Spear Dog! That photo is, I believe, from the wake of the American tactical fiasco at the hands of Rommel at Kasserine Pass in early 1943; boy - raw troops beginning their venture against a seasoned tactical master was quite a reality check! The Desert Fox was now suffering jaundice, however, as well as still displaying an imbalance of tactical prowess and overlooked logistic limitations (not the only theater of which this increasingly became a major problem for the Germans).
That Sherman tank does look like it was blown from the inside, no?
