The houses in the background point toward Japan.

So as they are british, the bombardment of Kagoshima against the clan shimazu in 1863.

I figured someone might guess Kagoshima, but no.

The photo shown are indeed British marines & sailors who have captured an anti-ship battery.

Ha yeah, that must be that since there was a major landing. I thought sailors were landed too in Kagoshima though.

There are multiple ways, attachments or HTML, for starters when posting a quick reply click the 'Go Advanced' option at the bottom of the entry screen.
