^No, but your sort of on the right track - wind it back a few generations. This battle is historically more significant as an event in a family squabble then it is in having a decisive outcome, but that said, for a short time after this battle significant history almost happened.

Correct. The guy being captured is King Stephen, who had usurped the claim to the Throne of England by his cousin Empress Matilda, daughter of Henry I. Matilda's forces led by Robert, 1st Earl of Gloucester (Matilda's half brother), came to the relief of the siege of the city of Lincoln (which had sided with her cause), defeated and captured King Stephen. Matilda's claim to the throne was legitimate and better than Stephen's as she was the nominated heir of Henry I after the death of her brother William Adelin (Her title Empress comes from her marriage to the German Holy Roman Emperor Henry V, she returned to England to claim her inheritance after Henry V's death led to the HRE throne being claimed by his political enemy Lothair II).

After Stephen's capture Matilda moved quickly to formalise her claim the throne, but was thwarted by procrastination of the Bishops who would sanction her crowning and ultimately by an uprising of the people of London who chased her from the city. The whole enterprise eventually fell apart when Robert of Gloucester was captured and exchanged for the release of Stephen.

Had she managed to legitimise her claim she would have been England's first ruling Queen - with a very English pedigree at that. She was born in England and her mother was Matilda of Scotland whose line predated the Normans. Both Matilda and Stephen were grandchildren of William the Conqueror and Matilda's son was Henry II, perhaps the greatest of the Angevin Kings.

This could be considered a great victory or a terrible slaughter depending on your viewpoint.

Here's clue; this was part of a native tribal civil war which led to a full on war with the US government.

lol I was literally just reading about the Scanian War. After the Swedes failed to defeat Prussia (on the behalf of King Louis XIV) the Danes opportunistically declared war on Sweden and tried to besiege Malmo in an attempt to reclaim Scania. The Danes failed but the war lasted about 5 years.
